Hello. We are new to this board. We are starting to plan a trip to Lake Chapala in February. from Arizona We would fly into Guadalajara. How would we get to Lake Chapala the best way? Any recommendations on where to stay for 9 days? Finally, where would we meet expats to have a drink and talk or listen to music and talk? Hoping to have a great vacation, meet new people and learn great spots to visit and what makes Lake Chapala so special. Thank you in advance. Scott and Sue

One piece of advice would be to start looking for a place NOW.  That is "Prime Time! " For only 9 days a B&B is probably best or maybe an Air B&B. You can easily get a taxi from the airport or you can hire a driver to pick you up. I recommend Alex Peterson and can send you his email if you PM me.  Search B&B's for Ajijic, as there are numerous, and all are nice. It is SO easy to meet people here.  Just talk to anyone you see.  The Plaza in Ajijic has many foreigners in the surrounding restaurants and if you talk to them they are almost always friendly. Stop in at the Lake Chapala Society and talk with anyone you see for information. If you like music look up Francis Dryden on Facebook who has a weekly newsletter about all the bands who are playing around town.  Have a great vacation!

Gimpy`s right...taxi from the airport.  Nueva Posada is my recommendation. Beautiful setting on the lake and beautiful rooms, OK restaurant, near LCS and the plaza (for meeting expats and socializing). Call now for reservations, the crowd is on its way.

Go to the farmer's market on Tuesdays on the Carretera to the west near the Pantheon at 10:00 AM. Lots of talkative expats, coffee available. Also go the the Wednesday Tiangus  runs off the caratera. It will be crowded with expats.  There is also the Lake Chapala Society in Ajijic to visit as well as a VFW in Chapala.
