Good Eye doc in Ajijic for an examination?

Recommended Posts

There is an excellent eye clinc in Guadalajara, called Clinica Santa Lucia.  The many oftamologos who use that clinic are among the best choices.  You won't generally find them in a small, touristy village.

Not true at all RV.  This is a retirement area, not particularly a tourist spot.

He said to someone who has lived there/here for, what, over a decade!?!

IMO Ajijic/Lake Chapala used to be  just a retirement village.... in addition to, of course, being home to MANY Mexican Nationals..... but it is/has become more of an attraction to hoards of Mexicans. If this is doubted, explain all the 'birds-nest' condos around Joco or the other dwellings around "Ajijic" in general.   Just my take 'tho.

We had a very bad experience with Dr. Vargas-  and also with Dra. Elizabeth who performed surgery on my husband.  I would not suggest him.  Dra. Claudia Camacho Choza is a very reputable ophthalmologist.  Her number is 333-441-5902.  Please search this web page for feedback, and also FB.  She is highly regarded and a very esteemed physician- the best in this area and also has offices in Guadalajara and surgical services there along with her mother who is a also an ophthalmologist and eye surgeon as well.

Hoards of Mexicans as in Tapatios?  Yes, they have always (many decades) come to the lake to cool off from Guad.  But not tourists per se.  There's nothing for the average tourist from the US or even from Mexico City to do here if they don't have family.  BTW--I have lived here waaaay over ten years

I highly recommend Dra. Claudia. She is on maternity leave until January. If you want to be seen now two of her relatives are filling in for her but if you want to wait until January they are taking appointments for her now.

Absolutely 100% recommend Dra. Claudia or her sister (sry, I forgot her name...shame on me!) who are both excellent. I've posted this before, but Dra. Claudia took me from many vision problems (crap eyes) to 20/20 vision. Her retina specialist, Dr. Silva, saved my sight when a local doctor couldn't be bothered.

Dr. Vargas is an opthalmologist with an office in Hospital del Hierro in Guadalajara.  He comes into the Ajijic Clinic one day a week...I think it's Tuesdays.  Excellent doctor.  He did my cataract surgery several years ago.  Appointments are made at the main desk.

Is that the Ajijic Clinic that is on the mountain side of the caraterra, close to Colon?

Do you know of anyone who has seen the two relatives of Dr.Claudia?  And what was their experience with them?

Update-My husband and I saw Dra. Paulina today. We were very impressed with her. She was professional and knowledgeable. She took her time and we never felt rushed. She answered all of our questions and was thorough. Highly recommend her and Dra. Claudia.
