Stops driving in from Pharr

Exactly where are you referring - what road are you intending on travelling?  You have to cross a few other states before you get to the State of Jalisco if you cross into Mexico at Pharr, TX.

There may be military checkpoints (retenes) anywhere along the way. They do move from place to place, and are rather unpredictable.  There is nothing to fear, and they are usually brief. Mostly, they are looking for things like drugs, weapons and certain individuals.

No matter where one crosses the border they are going to hit a few military stops before they reach Lake Chapala.... that's a given. Other than slowing one down momentarily I have never seen them being something to worry about unless..... one is running drugs and/or driving a huge black Caddy Escalade with the windows all blacked out.

Yes, those vehicles are usually quickly sent to the front of any line and waved through with a salute!

I just know we will cross at Pharr heading for Reynosa, then onto Lakeside.

There is an occasional one just outside of Ciudad  Victoria after you go over the mountain and come down on the other side.  It has always been very cursory for us.  There is the big one between CV and Pharr going north, last time it was very quick, just a look and wave through.

Occasionally the police are checking at the point where the road to Reynosa joins the main Ruta 101.  Again, very quick.

Last trip north via Pharr a month ago the checkpoints were all very quick.
