michael2595
I bought a new car a few months back and want to sell it. Does the new buyer have to pay sales tax, also?
vista lake
Yes! But sometimes you can make a deal, pay 50%, the buyer and seller! Because if you're car is like 5 yeras old, to pay the tax is like $13 000 to $20 000 pesos.
Intercasa
Yes there is used vehicle sales tax and a table of values for all cars to avoid people declaring lowball price paid, tax runs 2-7% Valor de Valor hasta cuota fija % a aplicar 0.01 61,500.00 - 2.00% 61,500.01 127,500.00 1,230.00 4.50% 127,500.01 174,800.00 4,200.00 6.90% 174.800.01 222,200.00 7,463.70 7.00% 222,200.01 En adelante 10,781.70 7.10%
cedros
How & where do you pay this tax on a used car? Is there a form to fill out? Would the new owners pay when they register the vehicle? Does this apply to two private parties. I 'm guessing that the new owners would want to put as a low a value as possible on the vehicle. Would someone contest a very low price?

The transactions are carried out at the office where you obtain your yearly renewal sticker
RVGRINGO
Intercasa gave the answer, along with the chart of the tax liability. The transaction and payment is accomplished at the office of the Recaudadora; the taxing agency and vehicle registry, ie, the recording office. In Chapala, it is located at the east end of Degollado. It is wise to go there with the seller and buyer both present to insure that all paperwork is presented, and that there are no outstanding liens or tickets, before turning over any cash. 2

What if the seller is out of the country already?

Only the buyer has to go to register the vehicle. It isn't clear how the value of the vehicle is established for tax purposes.
