tomgates
Saw a sign on the door that they are closing permanently and suggested Andares or Tlaquepaque. Like seriously? I put $200 every 30 days for phone and data. Can any other place do this? Thanks.
pappysmarket
Like...Holy Batsh*t Robin!! I always topped up at any old Oxxo but maybe that no longer works?
Go Solar
Almost hard to find a convenience or food store these days that doesn't either either tie in electronically to recharge a Telcel account on the spot, or at worst, sell you a scratch & use prepaid card for "self serve" top up. Ferret
I print off both my Telcel and Telmex bills and pay them at Oxxo.

gimpychimp
You can pay at OXXO or even pay online right on your phone using the MiTelcel or Telcel Pay app.
suegarn
There are many small Telcel offices around Ajijic. There's one beside Alex's Pasta Bar across from the Plaza Bugambillas. There's a couple across from the Ajijic Plaza. And I'm sure there are more, but those are the ones that come to mind at this time.
RickS
Many of us use Anna at Plaza Bugambilias, Carretera Ote 54 Carretera Ote 60 Red Amigos Telcel, Marcos Castellan
Go Solar
For those with a Telmex landline account, you can also set up to automatically charge a monthly recurring Telcel payment right on it, which is pretty convenient - "one and done".
ComputerGuy
For those who prefer to pay cash, all those stores around are not TelCel stores, specifically. They are just cell-phone stores, but of course they deal with TelCel accounts (and MoviStar and probably others). So does every Oxxo and 7-11. And Walmart. And Soriana. Too bad about the big one, but I guess I am surprised it stayed open as long as it did. They foresaw a huge need, based on Guadalajara tourism mostly, but missed the notion that tapatios already have their phones purchased and loaded before they come here for the weekend. I'm not ever going to do that. Why? Because I'm on my own and, if I croak, they're just gonna keep on charging my credit card.... just like they kept on charging me 999 pesos per month without telling me that THAT particular level of service no longer existed.
Go Solar
Just now, Ferret said: they're just gonna keep on charging my credit card It just shows up as another service on the Telmex bill, it is not in any way charged to your c/card. Good old Tio Carlos thinks of everything! 😉
Ferret
When I inquired about the Telcel addition to my Telmex bill, I was told (at the time a year ago) that they could do that ONLY if I bought a cell phone from Telmex. Has that changed?

sm1mex
We prepay our cell phone ahead so we won't have to worry about it when we travel. Can you pay at Anna's mentioned above?
tomgates
At OXXO, just tell them the Telcel phone number and put $200p on it? Any service fee?

Yep, or whatever amount. Tell them it's for a "paquete", so you continue with your data. No service charge to us.
barcelonaman
Think you will find its just shut for today. Although says permanently, its a common phrase used here and just means for today. 2
RVGRINGO
Today is 16 de Septiembre; Mexican National Independence Day. Many things will be closed; just as they are up north for July 4th, Canada Day, etc. No surprise .........
Ferret
Then I wonder why the sign directed people to the Andares Mall or Tlaquepaque? Don't they celebrate in Guadalajara too?
johanson
Good point Ferret. I liked going to the Laguna Mall upon occasion, but if the this official Telcel office closes there are many retail outlets that I can go to, to buy more time for the Amigo Plan of my choice. In fact I have hardly ever purchased more time/data from the Laguna Mall outlet. I pay the same price when I go to one of my favorite outlets at or near Plaza Bugambilias

Exactly right... wasn't too long ago Foccacia's pizza/pasta place was freaking everyone out with the same announcement. It doesn't mean "permanent" permanent. sm1mex
Right Foccacias was closed just for his son's school graduation celebration. He was open the next day.
slainte39
I agree also. Permanencia could and probably does mean......closed for the day
