Julio Orozco
Lost my glasses the second day here. Can't drive at night without 'em. Anyone have a recommendation for a well-qualified optometrist in Chapala or Ajijic? Are the optometrists any better in Guadalajara? I'm sure this question has been answered a million times already but would surely appreciate the help once again. Newbie Rick
RVGRINGO
Check at the Lake Chapala Society, for the visiting optico, or go to Costco in Guadalajara. There are others in Chapala, on Degollado, just a block or so off Madero, for example.
Irish Gal
There is an optomistrist named Luz who comes to the Lake Chapala Society every week (check on their website for dates and times) . She has been seeing people there for about 17 years. I've got my glasses there several times and I've never had a problem with them. She has many, many satisfied clients.

Does she actually do an eye exam as opposed to just checking for your prescription? Went to a recommended place in Chapala and while my partner is happy with her glasses, I feel like I need someone to do a check of the health of my eyes. Irish Gal
Chapalence: She has checked my eyes before and saw that I had cataracts. Usually I am just having her check for my prescription. There is an excellent ophthalmologist in Chapla whom my husband went to when he wanted to have his eyes checked for cataracts. The procedure was done at an eye clinic in Guadalajara.

cafemediterraneo
I recommend Salvadore at the eye glass store in Ajijic on hidalgo a few doors west of colon across the street from the police station on the plaza. He used to work for millenium across from El Torito market, but left to complete more training. he gave me the best prescription i ever had that i've used for ten years.... RVGRINGO
An Optico, or Optomitrist is just for glasses. An Oftomalogo, or Ophthalmologist is for a complete evaluation and treatment of your eyes, including medications and surgery. Some of them are specialized, as retinologists, for example. I also recommend Clinica Santa Lucia, in Guadalajara, as mentioned above. Superb facility and specialists.
Islander
We were satisfied with Luz who comes to the Lake Chapala Society .The glasses were generally (not always) done within a week. The eye exam is free but we give her a tip.

Claudia Camacho Choza on the second floor above the immigration office on Hidalgo in Chapala. I have a cell number for her office, 33 3403-3857 but am not sure if that's up-to-date. Both eyes were done (one at a time) and both were successful. 2
MtnMama
If you just want glasses and a basic eye exam, Dr Luz does an excellent job. If you want an complete eye exam, I recommend Dra. Claudia in Chapala. She is the best IMHO. Phone: 33 3403 3857 Appointments: eyecenterchapala.com

Anne B
I need cataract surgery. I would like to have specialty lenses placed to correct my astigmatism at the same time. In the states this would cost me over $3000. Can anyone recommend a clinic and/or Dr. for this? What might I expect to pay?
