Car rental at GDL

Recommended Posts

Hi All

I am coming to Ajijic at the beginning of Sept and I have looked for a rental car at GDL.

Would some be able to enlighten me on why when I search Expedia, Kayak, etc I get results that show $1-$3 a day for a rental car.  What are they hiding in the extra costs and will the accept my car insurance from Canada for collision and such ?  My insurance covers me for North America.

Any info would be greatly appreciated

Cheers

Here's a better idea:

Email Mark Turford at markturford at yahoo dot com

He rents older vehicles and can have you picked up at the airport. His rates are good and we have used him twice with good results.

Do a search of him on this board for more opinions.

Another vote for Mark Turford.  Rented from him several times over the years including a few long term rentals of a month or more.  Mark carries insurance for his renters.  And for a modest fee picks you up at GDL.  His employees are all extremely nice.

I have rented cars at GDL; very low prices but insurance is extra. Try rentalcars.com or carrentals.com to see if you can get a deal including insurance.

Your US or Canadian insurance will not be accepted here. Your insurance company may say they do however....The laws here are different. Should you be in an accident and anyone is hurt, even if it is the other drivers fault everyone stays at the accident scene until police AND an agent from each of your insurance companies shows up to prove each of you have valid insurance. If no insurance or no agent shows up you go sit in jail until the insurance is straightened out. You will want to buy the Mexican insurance. That’s why the car rental rate is so low.
