New modem

Recommended Posts

EDIT: I've been informed that I have made a mistake; this modem appears to be from TelCel for their WiFi en Casa. I've seen a number of new modems lately, but this one takes the cake: The Huawei Model B310s - 518. Why? Because the WiFi signal was at least 10dB better than any other model. It is quite unusual for a modem to fall below the standard (are you listening, iLox and iFibra?), or above the standard.

No. It is a standard DSL modem. It is capable, therefore, of VDSL, as are all other TelMex modems in the last several years... but it is not fibre.

I put links to photos and pricing because some people like to buy a spare modem for when theirs goes bad. Until now, TelMex modems have been available for $300 to $350 on mercadolibre. Not this puppy.

I apologize for changing the original topic, but I'm actually interested in having a spare modem kicking around. If we can't buy directly from Telmex, then would a modem work out of the box like the one listed below on Mercadolibre without having to do the 192.168-type setup. I'm not familiar with setting up a modem from scratch.

They do work right out of the box because I bought two from Mercado Libre when I finally got fed up of Telmex Ajijic giving me dead modems. That was a couple of years ago though so I would call the 1-800 number on your modem which will get you the very knowledgeable Techs at Telmex in Mexico City. Ask for English and ask that Tech what would be their recommendation of models and numbers for Telmex modems in your location. They were spot on at the time and both modems (different ones) arrived brand new; were both plug and play; and both are still working perfectly. Suerte!

Look, folks, I don't want to just delete my post and cause mass confusion, but I believe I mistakenly thought this was a TelMex modem, when in fact it is a TelCEL WiFi en Casa" modem. So any thoughts of using it... fuggedaboudit. I'm so sorry: I did three modem setups that day, and I have obviously swapped the details in my records.

I can no longer say that this particular modem is the one that has the better WiFi.
