bdlngton
I am looking for information on licensing a vehicle in South Dakota. I believe somebody posted here or in another group recently about waiting for their South Dakota plates. If you know the process, where to find information or whom to contact in SD, please let me know. I believe it is Clay County, if I remember correctly. johanson
I thought it was North Dakota, but I could be very wrong.
nolajoe
This is a link to the Clay County, SD Treasurer's office. Scroll down to form MV608 (application for title). That is the form that you need to complete in order to start the process. You MUST use an address in the USA. For assistance, call or email the helpful personnel at their office. http://www.claycountysd.org/treasurersoffice.cfm

Mainecoons
Just plated an RV there. Piece of cake. They are very specific about the documents needed and are extremely pleasant and helpful on the phone.

Susy Wilson
How long are the vehicle tabs good for when licensing in South Dakota? In WA state they have to be renewed every year.
jrod
Every year. You can renew by phone with a credit card, but they send the physical registration renewal and updated stickers for your license plates to your US address on file, which they confirm when you renew. And you do need a SS#--that's how your registration is filed in their computer system.
Youngtimer
This is all great info but why the South Dakota registration? Is it for lower insurance cost as in no USA auto insurance and only Mexican insurance? Or just no inspection sticker? I am currently trying to decide whether or not to bring a car into Mexico. RickS
One "must" have a valid registration for their foreign plated ar while in Mexico. SD is easy to use. No "inspection" required. No questions asked. Quick turnaround. Cheaper than many states.
