Illegal to try on a bra in Mexico?

In Canada my property taxes paid for schools, sewer maintenance and garbage collection, water, roads, policing services, and a host of other things. I would consider it "better" if they upped the property taxes here and actually provided something in exchange for the payment. Property taxes are so low here, I can't imagine they go towards anything but the administration of the tax collection.

And the people on a limited income could possibly loose their house so you think it would Ā be "better" for them if they can't afford to pay high property taxes?

Ā

The Mexican Constitution forbids high property taxes. What your property taxes in Canada paid forĀ the 16 percent IVA tax and SAT tax pays for in Mexico. The more you make - SATĀ tax -Ā and the more you buy - 16 percent IVA tax - increases your federal tax contribution and leaves those that make very little or those that mightĀ pay no SAT tax and consume much less with the same services as everyone and their house is guaranteed to be theirs as long as they live and as long as their heirs want to live there or keep it.Ā

I have one brief question. If people with property don't pay taxes on it - particularly high value properties - where does the money come from to pay for roads, and bridges, and sewers, and police and fire protection... ? It seems the money fairies aren't doing a very good job of providing adequate funds to pay for all these services so I guess it will need to come down to paying property taxes.

All you mentioned comes from SAT taxes and the 16 percent IVA taxes in Mexico. Property taxes have nothing to do with services. There is no comparision to your idea of property taxes here in Mexico. Mexican systems are difficult to understand but if you read my post above it might help explain their reasoning behindĀ very low -Ā almost free - property taxes.

So the rich and the poor are protected...under the constitution from high property taxes.. pretty sweet deal for the rich..

In this one instance itĀ is aĀ good deal for them also.

In other instancesĀ the rich have a greater level of responsibility to become rich and support more by paying largeĀ amounts of SAT and IVA taxes and get nothing in return. The poor have a much lower level of responsibility andĀ benefit from all taxes collected Ā and pay aĀ much smaller amount of those taxes, so who actually has a sweet deal?Ā

Yeah, I have seen those lucky poor people with their sweet deals. Want to trade places with them?Ā Ā I pity those unfortunate, suffering wealthy people with their ā€œresponsibility toĀ become richā€ (whatever that means). Oh the burdens of the rich.Ā Ā

You know what it takes to succeed in life Ā and earn money according toĀ your level of skillsĀ and your level of responsibility just like everyone else. It starts with takingĀ a high level of responsibilty in your youth and if youĀ are notĀ making much money your whole life you didn't deserve to. Making good money is very hard and stressful but making just a little might be physically hard but simple to do as anyone can be trained to do it quickly.Ā IMO

I bet that philosophy helps you sleep better at night. All those hungry, sick, oppressed humans just havenā€™t taken responsibility and done the hard, stressful work of becoming rich. And, donā€™t get me started on Ā those slacker kids not taking a highĀ level of responsibility who deserve to be poor all their lives.Ā

I have no idea what you are talking about other than understandingĀ you have confused patronizing with using sarcasm. YouĀ truly donā€™t get it and never will. Thank you for reminding me not to waste my time.Ā

What we have here is one liberal view and one "Horatio Alger" view. The best way of all to get rich is the simplest one: be born rich.

Another one is to be born with more than the average amount of brains or beauty.Ā  As my dad said:Ā  "you can marry more money in 5 minutes than you can earn in a lifetime.Ā  (I didn't do that, any more than he did.)

If you happen to be born dumb and ugly into a poor, uneducated, family, then the concept of "taking responsibility" young and working your butt off is an alien concept and the likelihood of ever having more than subsistence is unlikely.Ā Ā  Of course, there's always cottoning up to a criminal and sharing in the take.

Am I a cynic and a "realist"?Ā  You betcha.Ā  Was I lucky in life? More so than many.Ā  Did I also work my tushie off for years?Ā  Absolutely. Do I expect to change anyone's mind who still believes the "Horatio Alger" theory applies to everyone?Ā  Of course not.šŸ˜‰

Now, would one of the mods please split this thread as appropriate so as not to confuse people who think it's going to be about female underwear?šŸ˜

Hardly Horatio Alger. A more apt description of the two persons with "views" in question is an SJW aka radical progressive taking umbrage with a realists look at 2 socioeconomic types.

Or if you want to get all historical, it is the colonial New England concept of community providing basic services and caring for its own vs. the Southern plantation view of "I got mine, too bad about you".

well if you ask me I would rather be rich than poor but that is just me...I see how both sides Ā live and no question in my mind about that.

I see why you want out of the US with the prospect of Socialism ahead, unless you are filthy rich, then you are among the elite that Socialism doesn't affect.

BTW, the Horatio Alger myth is exactly what people were debating.

"All of Alger's juvenile novels share essentially the same theme, known as the "Horatio Alger myth": a teenage boy works hard to escape poverty. Often it is not hard work that rescues the boy from his fate but rather some extraordinary act of bravery or honesty.

Horatio Alger - Wikipedia

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horatio_Alger,_Jr."

One side did not appear to represent radical Socialism, but rather the thinking that gave the U.S. Social Security back in the Thirties and the current benefits for the needy they now have. The other side seems to represent some hard nosed right wing notions which don't represent mainstream Republicanism, either. Since most people in the "retired" and beyond age group are firmly set in their ways, they aren't likely to "convert", now.

I pay plenty in IVA, I have a small business and pay SAT taxes, as well as property taxes. I have no garbage collection, no sewer lines, and when the road is in a bad state, it doesn't get fixed unless all the neighbors chip in and have it done. So no, I don't receive the services I did in Canada from IVA and SAT taxes.Ā

The locals here, the original ejido families, were given vast tracts of land by the govt, during land reform. They subsequently subdivided those properties to sell off to foreigners at a huge profit. They pay next to nothing in property taxes, they don't pay for water, yet stand outside watering the street with their leaky hoses for half an hour, turning it into a lake and creating more potholes, while other areas are lucky to get water one every 3 nights.Ā So their special breaks do not result in appreciation, they result in an attitude of entitlement. And many are driving shiny new 4x4s, much nicer than any vehicle I've ever been able to afford.
