How to get money for US consulate on same day visit?

Recommended Posts

The US consulate rep comes to Lakeside on Wednesdays.  When I wrote to the consulate I asked how much the Banamex bank check should be. I received a reply saying that I need to check on the same day (Wednesday) as the consulate rep visits.

How do I:   drive to Chapala, stand in line at the American Legion to meet with the consulate rep in Chapala to determine the amount of the check, then head  over to Banamex to get the check, then drive to LCS  by 10 am to put my name on the list to meet with the consulate rep  there?  Am I missing something?

You can't.The only way is to have one person stand in line while the other one goes to get the check, as I see it.

That's why we renewed ours in GDL at the consulate. Spent a nice day in GDL afterwards, so as not to waste a bus trip.

They take USD checks there, as well as cash in pesos or USdollars.

That is not the info I received from the Consulate this morning.  They sent me an e-mail stating that the conversion rate changes daily and I can only get the bank check for the correct amount on the actual day of their visit.

I think maybe the Guadalajara option is the best choice.

Take the bus for $59 pesos ($29 with an INAPAM card), hop in a taxi in front of the bus station or order an Uber, and go to the consulate. Cheap and, IMO, far easier than dealing with Banamex and paying $200 for the check.  Read this first- https://mx.usembassy.gov/u-s-citizen-services/passport-services/

The U.S. warden posts the rates here on chapala.com as he receives them from the U.S. Consulate. The rates referenced above are correct. The warden generally receives the official rates the Friday or at the latest the Monday before the visit.

IF there was a change at the last minute it would also be posted here as soon as received. THE ABOVE REFERENCED RATES ARE CORRECT AND ARE TO BE FOUND IN CUSTOMS AND IMMIGRATIONS.

I assume you live somewhere Lakeside.  To save you all of the hassles of bus, taxi, Uber, or the "buddy system" mentioned above by various posters, take advantage of the Consulate services 1X each month at LCS.  The reply from LCS Notices, above, is accurate.  Seems the Consulate gave you bad info.  When you come to LCS on the designated Wednesday, go to the big back patio area.  You will see a big group of folks, happily seated and waiting.  Check in with Norm, the volunteer at the table.  The Consulate folks will arrive shortly, after they finish up at the American Legion, and the 'customers' are all waited on in a quite timely manner.  If you have any questions when first arrive at LCS, there are volunteers in the Office and at the Information Desk, AND docents/guides who will even escort you back to the patio!  But come prepared with proper documentation and proper check.  And only for Passport Renewals and Notary svcs.

Thank you, INCREDIBLY HELPFUL.  Because I received an email from the consulate  on Friday which directs me to a page that says, due to daily changes in the Dollar>Peso rate, I MUST have the correct conversion rate as of the day of the Consul (Rep's) visit to LCS/American Legion.  If the visit is Wednesday, then I must have Wednesday's rate.  A check prepared on Monday or Tuesday, with a different conversion rate, is not valid.

I think the consulate should update their site.

But since I missed it today I'm thinking of  heading over to the Notario's office, I am sure they can witness and stamp an affidavit to attest to my signature.  It's for a US will, and actually, a notary stamp isn't required,. (Another post)
