Hospital San Antonio

This is increasing exponentially. A month ago I was told 2 weeks. 2 weeks ago I was told 3 weeks. Now it's a month. Looks like we're may never get there 😂😂

Probably a wise way to run their business.  Waiting for insurance companies to pay makes for definite cash flow problems. Let the customers pay up front and let THEM wrangle with the insurance payment. Smart business decision.

Our agent, Edgardo Cedano Cardenas, went and was told that they were still waiting for the "health certificate" before they could accept insurance companies.

Not necessarily the smartest decision, since that approach to Customer Service may leave the business with no customers or business...

Agreed.

Since they seem to want to do the higher ticket surgeries, my guess is that they have cut their customer base in half.  Not that many people with enough 'walking around' money to pay for cardiac surgery up front.  And most of those that do will want to be in one of the five-star hospitals in Guad.

No accepting Mexican ns. will cut them out of my business because I rather go to a hospital that will accept being paid by the insurrance.. I amdealing with a hospital where my husband had an emergency surgery and getting insuurnce papers fill out and all the facturas can be a nightmare.. At least Jalisco is not Chiapas but I do not want to have to chase the paper, I rather go in a  top hospital in Guadalajara than to San Antonio  but , I guess everyone is different.

I agree with Hal about Hospital Ajijic. We've always gotten top-notch care from both the father and son (Drs. Rodriguez). We tried another gringo-popular place here and were pretty put off by the attitude. The senior Dr. Rodriguez always gives you his full attention and never makes you feel like "your fifteen minutes are up." Yes, we can afford to go for more bells and whistles, but why? Good care, very reasonable prices make it our go-to medical facility.

Time will tell if it is a good or bad decision not to accept insurance. Remember, it's just a "for profit" business and should be run as such.  If they don't get enough "customers" that way they can always change their policy.  Same as a restaurant accepting or not accepting credit cards. As long as they accept credit cards most patients can hang it on their plastic and pay it off if, and when their insurance pays. How do you suppose many Mexican doctors can charge such reasonable fees for basic office visits? Because they know the patient's insurance will eventually pay something?  I think not, maybe because we all pay the receptionist on the way out. If the only insurance allowed by law was catastrophic coverage after a hefty deductible we would see the cost of basic health treatment come way down. Without rich insurance companies and governments that have unlimited cash driving up costs supply and demand would drive costs down. Let the "sad faces" begin, LOL.

Exactly right.  I go into a doctors office NOB and there are more paper shufflers than physicians.  And insurance paid by doctors and hospitals directly takes the patient out of the loop and facilitates ridiculous charges.  Probably more than anything insurance as it is handled now is responsible for skyrocketing medical costs.

LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION.

Getting to Guadalajara is stressful, especially of you try to drive yourself.

Prices "locally" will vary. Remember to compare apples to apples. Don't compare prices here to those NOB for the same service.

In many services, there is always a "Gringo Tax" included.

IMO, never give a hospital (for many places here for that matter), your CC#. They may make additional charges that hadn't "caught up" to your closing bill.

MOST IMPORTANT POINT:

NOB (in the U.S.) there is accountability on doctore and hospitals. There are courts that will handle malpractice cases.

IMO, for the most part, in Mexico, if there is a "mistake," and you suffer a negative result, usually all you will get is an "We apologize for the inconvenience."

If/When I feel I really need some expert care, I hop a plane and head NOB.

I trust the specialists here pretty much, however, they are still human and can make mistakes.

It's a balance scale. You decide.

"hop a plane" eh?  If the determining factor for you is about the presence or absence of malpractice lawsuits,  I could tell you a few horror stories of what happened to me NOB and how well medical groups cover each others' "assets" whenever they can. Overall, I've had better medical care in Mexico by being sure to get good referrals from people who have "been there and done that" with various professionals.  The last thing I'd want to do if I needed care for a serious condition (and felt badly) is to take a flight to the U.S. , but of course...YMMV.😏

So doctors NOB can not make mistakes because they are not human?
