The Lake Chapala Society Introduces

Mudlarks Pottery and Beach Club of Ajijic

If you have ever wanted to learn ceramics or just lark about in the mud, you are cordially invited to stop by the new clay studio at LCS. It is located just below the casita on the south campus. This summer will be very informal as we experiment with formats to see what works best.  Please note that you must be an LCS member in good standing to join the fun.

A monthly lab fee includes basic instruction and ongoing coaching as you progress.  The monthly fee also includes glazes, use of tools, and firings.   Clay will be available to purchase as you need it.

Jennifer Johnson is the manager/founder of this new program. With her generous assistance and contribution of tools, equipment, and expertise, she has organized an exciting new creative outlet for our members. Jennifer was a professional clay and mosaic artist in California and operated a teaching and production studio for over thirty years. Looking forward to meeting you.

Traditionally a mud lark is someone who searches for items of value in river mud - lots of info on Google.- big tradition in England.  However, according to the instructor, mudlarks Is a term used by artists ( at least in the U.S.) who practice this type of art with clay. It is slabbed and then creative designs applied, glazed and fired. I'm curious to see the results. Kiln is installed and other materials being set up.
