Hernia Surgery

Recommended Posts

After trusting my hernia surgery to a well known surgeon in GDL I realized something was again wrong less than a year later. Was directed to Dr. Armando Joya in PV and he scheduled me for surgery within a week and explained what had not been correctly done. No overnight stay, returned to the hospital the next day via taxi for checking and cleaning of wound and ended up walking back home.  If I ever need thoracic surgery again I will travel to PV and have it done by Dr. Joya.

See Dr.. Hector Valenzuela at Quality Care, 766-1870.  No one better at this kind of problem.

He does it laparoscopically. He charged my buddy last week 800 p initial consultation and 40,000 including one night in the hospital.

Had mine done recently at the Seguro Popular hospital in Joco. EXCELLENT RESULT! If you are enrolled you should go to your local clinic for an examination. They will tell you to return with a MRI (I think that it is what it is called) and then they will give you a referal to the hospital for a followup with a specialist and then it proceeds to the actual operation. A kind of long torturous road but it is FREE, including the follow up drugs. Lots of luck!

I also went to the little hospital outside of Jocotepec. I chose endoscopic. No xrays because I had a buldge  the size of an orange all Doctors agreed it was a hernia. The Doctor was from Guadalajara brought his team and equipment. Costs for this and the mesh was about $500.00. I walked out in less than 24 hours. That was three years ago and am happy with results.

There is a hospital in Canada (Toronto) specializes in hernias... Shouldice Hernia Hospital.

I heard about the hospital when US Representative Rand Paul, MD chose to go there for his hernia treatment.

I was curious as to why a doctor who is also a US Representative would choose that particular hospital.

It turns out they use scar tissue instead of mesh, the latter which can migrate and cause complications, whereas scar tissue does not migrate.

Naturally I do not speak from a position of experience or medical expertise, just information sharing.

With micro-lasers I can envision very accurate mesh-patterned scar tissue being created probably using laparoscopic techniques that might be a preferred method.

The website above has extensive information about the hospital and their procedures.

The point is you have to go to your local Seguro Popular clinic (mine is in San Antonio) and the doctor there will guide you along the Long, Lonely Road.

GH, I am in SAT also. they told me I had to go to the clinic in Ajijic. can you give me some information on seeing a doctor there?

Shouldice in Toronto is world famous for hernia repairs.

When I had a bilateral done there 25 years ago half the patients were from out-of-country.

The procedure is done with only a local anesthetic They asked me if I wanted a mirror so I could see the procedure. I respectfully declined.

I was walked off the operating table and on a stationery bike later that day.

Best of all the entire cost was covered by Canada's universal health care.
