Cheese

People love Navarro. They make a wide variety of cheeses, but their real cheddar has taken lakeside by storm. So much so that WalMart usually has two big displays... but it looks like, typical of WalMart's inventory "control", the stock of cheddar (except for the young, which is so mild it's like curds) got wiped out. Lots of us have been looking. It's not that they don't carry it anymore. Soriana has a much better sense of inventory.

From the store's view point, it is better to have too few of a perishable item that have too many. Getting the right number is hard.

Then it could be a problem with suppliers outside the control of the store.

The cremeria, corner Juarez/Lopez Cotilla,  behind the Chapala market building still had some this morning.

One should never defend lakeside's WalMart. That's like an oxymoron. WalMart created modern inventory control. They just don't use it here, or they somehow bastardize it, I don't know.

Pretty much every federal and provincial government office in Canada works on a minimum 90 day payout scheme, ensuring all small companies will go bust before getting paid. Thus, putting the grand lie to "we are here to help small business". I couldn't possibly hope to know how finances are run by WalMart in Mexico, but I sincerely doubt they are running close to the vest.

A while back our maid's husband quit Walmart because payroll was not being met on time.  When you send money through Walmart they have around a 11,000 peso limit they will pay out.  Several times we have sent money to Mexico city and the receiver would be told to come back later or the next day.  So I don't think Walmart in Mexico is doing that well.  I believe many Mexicans who hate Trump are taking it out on Walmart.  I think Walmart Mexico doesn't have a good access to USA Walmart funds.

Take this for whatever this is worth:  The owner of the cremeria where I bought that aged cheddar in PV told me it's a product they only release once a year around the end of the year.

There are far too many unwieldy finance laws in this country for sending, depositing, transferring funds, with ridiculous limits. Those, if anything, would be to blame for Walmart's "inability" to meet payroll. This is a multi-billion dollar operation. Record quarter this year in Mexico, largely based on squeezing suppliers. Pretty sure they squeeze everywhere they can, just like "back home".

I  still shop at Costco store #1 when I am up North. It's 6 Km from my condo in Seattle. . Here in Mexico, the closest Costco is store #730, some 65 Km from Ajijic
