Tijuana is # 1 !!!

Recommended Posts

This is very sad.  As a young person growing up in AZ and then later when working in West Texas we enjoyed being able to visit Mexican border towns have great eats and shopping (yeah and some boozing).  I remember when we visited my father in law in McAllen we'd always take a trip to Reynosa for chow and his favorite bourbon.  All those places are shut now and the jobs and livelihoods lost.

The sad truth is at this point in time Mexico really cannot provide internal security let alone border security.  For the good of both countries I support the efforts of the U.S. government to try and secure the border better.  Among other things these caravans that are such a burden on Mexico would probably stop coming if they knew for sure they couldn't get across.

We should all give AMLO our support and prayers as he tries to turn this thing around.  It is so depressing to see this happening to both countries.

I agree that it is sad. It is indicative of what the unbridled and unrelenting use of drugs in the US can cause. But, I don’t see that this article can be connected with border security... of either country... as you segway’d into. The next two cities in Mexico were Acapulco and C. Victoria. I too support our (US) country’s effort to secure the border better but not in the policital way that is being proposed by the current administration.

With respect to AMLO.... only time will tell if he can/will affect any meaningful change in Mexico. It’s an extraordinary steep hill he has to climb and there will be significant (artificial) barriers in that climb.

The physical strengthening of the border will require larger and better equipped border crossing points, with an emphasis on scanning equipment and vetting of officers. Those points, seaports and international airports, are the major sources of contraband entering the USA; not through the mountais, deserts or rivers. Some of it is with the 'cooperation' of border officials who have been either 'bought' or threatened. A "wall" would simply be a waste of funds & cost many their property and livelihoods, especially in Texas. It would also destroy several national parks, nature reserves and other environments, including animal migration routes.

Well I'm not an expert on border control and respectfully I don't think anyone here is either.  The people who actually do this work, and did it for the previous administration don't agree with you on the record.  Neither do countries like Israel, Hungary, Jordan, 77 countries around the world (per USA Today) in all probably don't agree with you either.

As to the political part, perhaps a review of the position of the current opponents before the last election would be a good exercise for some.

I'll leave it at that.  This topic is way too political.  What I do know is this drug thing has become the scourge of our two countries.  Frankly I'm so sick of the people who are the real cause of this, the drug users, I wouldn't shed a tear if they all died tomorrow.

It is a terrible situation and is an extreme emergency, not only for drugs, but the human trafficking, the type of people coming, etc. The people in Texas are faced with over 900,000 crimes committed by illegals over the last 5 years and growing daily. Help is desperately needed.

OK, I found it with the following:

Report Notes

These figures do not attempt to allege that foreign nationals in the country illegally commit more crimes than other groups.

.... and the next sentence says “It simply identifies thousands of crimes that should not have occurred and thousands of victims that should not have been victimized because the perpetrator should not be here”.

That kind of phrase reminds me of when my motorhome was hit while legally parked in Veracruz by a drunk Mexican driver. The Transito said that had I not parked on the street I would not have been hit.

Agreed. It also doesn’t take into account that had not the illegal perps done those crimes, some legals would probably have ‘taken up the slack’. You know, like illegals are ‘taking jobs away from legals’.

Don't forget that Texas counts illegal entry as a crime.

Not to sure of your Post's intent..... the report says that "These figures only count arrests in Texas for state offenses" and "These figures do not count federal criminal charges". Also, the term "criminal alien" refers to an individual who has been identified as an alien by DHS and who has been arrested for a [some other?] state criminal offense, typically a Misdemeanor B or higher, committed in Texas. That would seem to me to say that "the count" had nothing to do with illegal entry as a crime, but rather that a person already charged also happened to be illegal.

Yes, Mainecoons, I agree with you about the drug users.  And we would have the benefit here locally of having much less traffic if the drug users here Lakeside suddenly were not around.

That's exactly right.  It is the users who drive this scourge.  As long as there are buyers there will be sellers.

If I have friends that use this crap and contribute to all this death and misery they won't be friends if I find out.  I'm not too worried about it as I don't associate with druggies and neither do they.

Can't do anything about the neighbors.

Do you know what communism is ?? I do not think so. AMLO is not a communist just a socialist.. probably the same in your book but not in mine..I Europe we know the difference but it seems that nuances are lost for the majority of the Americans.

If anyone gives a whit, Senor Google will provide explanations of the differences.
