Marijuana Legalization in Mexico

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, this is an interesting topic that I can't seem to get a straight answer on. Has marijuana been legalized in Mexico? What are the possession limits? Number of plants if growing? Can anyone answer this with any degree of certainty? I have several friends here with cancer who are looking for medicine. I'd like to help them but not at the risk of ending up in a Mexican jail. tnx

I don't think it's legal yet to grow your own. And I do not see folks on the streets smoking pot either. I keep on hearing, though, that things are changing in Mexico and that it soon will be legal.

I remember as a teenager how we wanted to smoke it because it was illegal. but when I was in my early 20s and stationed in the Netherlands (Holland) where it was legal to smoke pot, that we didn't want to smoke it anymore, because it was legal.  How immature we were.

Oh and they made pot legal in 2013 in Colorado and Washington. And guess who went to play in the first Super bowl following the legalization in Colorado and Washington.  The Denver Broncos and the Seattle Seahawks. of course. And guess which state had better pot. The state of Washington, of course, as the Seattle Seahawks won the Super Bowl.  (smile)

"Just days before the one-year anniversary of a Mexican Supreme Court ruling that deemed the country’s prohibition of personal use or cultivation of marijuana unconstitutional, the judicial body granted an extension of a deadline it imposed on lawmakers to change the policy. The legislature now has until April 30, 2020 to pass reform legislation, whereas the previous mandate required action by Thursday."

I'm tempted to crack an easy joke about manana syndrome but, in fairness, they must be dealing with an insane number of competing interest groups and power brokers. Well, April is only six months away...

More than manana syndrome, it is more like get rich quick syndrome. As the world become increasingly less corrupt, mostly because of high tech surveillance equipment from the Middle Eastern wars and Homeland Security operations, it is increasingly hard to find anything legal, or borderline, to get rich quick upon. Some have seized on legal cannabis as a fool proof plan to get rich quick. It is not, but the Mexican socialist government wants to make sure it is safe by ensuring the industry enriches 40% of the lowest economic level people in Mexico.

For me, that includes paying an impoverished farmer to grow medical grade cannabis on their Milpa.

I for one, love your scientific, academic analysis of the success of legalization and the benefits. Didn´t MA legalize also ? (as if Tom Brady needed any more help LOLOL)
