Record Cold Up North... Global Warming... ???

Recommended Posts

The record cold of the north, home to most of the gringos in this area, has even pushed its way down into sunny Mexico causing colder than normal nights for weeks in our unheated homes.  Recently, for the first time, the Mainstream Media has given us the bigger picture, which is global warming.  Many people think "If it is so cold, how could there be Global Warming?"  Various articles have come out with detailed scientific information on how that works, including highly informative graphics, if you don't want to read all about it.

I'm posting this very comprehensive article from Forbes, plus info-graphics from several other articles.  The graphics are not identical because they indicate various times in recent weeks.  They show temperature variance, not current temperatures.  In  other words the darker blue/purple shades depict how far off the normal COLD the temps are, and the darker reds show how far off the normal WARM temperatures are.  It is obvious there is a great deal of hotter than normal air in the Arctic areas showing how normal air currents have been completely disrupted by Global Warming resulting in the current unprecedented weather extremes.  On the other side of the world Australia is having such extreme lasting heat waves that livestock and wildlife are simply dying from the unprecedented heat.  Over 20 years ago, Australia revised its building codes to reflect the great increase in extreme heat there.

I like people who know the difference between climate and weather, they passed the 4th grade.

Global Warming? Here's all the evidence I need. Now excuse me while I find a sock to stuff into the hole where my brain used to be.

I prefer 'climate change' to 'global warming.'

For the faint of mind, global warming is tricky.

what are you guys talking about? Up here in the greater Seattle WA- Vancouver-BC area, you know up North, the Temp has been above normal. The highs have been in the low 50s F (10s C) for the last few days. It will be getting cold this weekend and possibly going below freezing with the possibility of rain or slush before it warms up.

It has been a lot warmer than usual.

I know that in areas far to the East of us, they have had a little cold weather, but they are always colder at this time of the year.  That's part of global warming.

And in the summers lately , it has been getting warmer and warmer up north.

I guess negative temperatures (some record breaking) are just a little colder for you. Pick any city in the Midwest. They were worry that eye balls would freeze if out too long.

No, Tiny, it was plus 50 in the day time up here. And it hasn't been below freezing yet this winter. We don't pay much attention to the North-East of the US where they always have freezing weather.. And did you know that back there, all of the clocks are off by a few hours?

There are other parts of the US.

The bending of the jet stream has caused warmer weather in the west and colder weather (the polar vortex)  in the midwest.  This bending is thought to have been caused by the warming of the Pacific over the last few decades by climate change.

Not sure why anybody wants to start another thread about this topic. Pointless and boring.

If that was the case, there would only be a couple of topics.  HAHAHA. JK

Thank you ezpz for posting this information. Let me add this explanation from  Dr. Jennifer Francis,  who is credited with proving the relationship between global warming and the creation of the polar vortex. Dr. Francis has an amazing ability to express complex atmospheric information in simple and easy-to-understand terms.
