Herman
If you’ve done this drive, where would you recommend that we stop for the night. Thank you.

The hotel has a restaurant which is OK but I recommend having dinner across the street at La Noria Restaurant. Matehuala is not on the highway from Nogales.

RickS
Since it is over 1,000 miles from Nogales to Lakeside most people spend 2 nights on the road. A good first stop is Navajoa at the Best Western or another hotel there, then another night in Mazatlan, then on into Lakeside the third day. If stopping in Navajoa is too soon for you (7+ hours after getting done at the border), then Los Mochis is about 10 hours down.... but then it is 11 hours on to Lakeside and some folks don’t like to travel that long in Mexico 2 days in a row. Due to toll booths and fueling, a good average miles-in-an-hour figure is about 55 miles if driving 70-ish. YMMV
Willie
When I was still working and commuting between our home in Scottsdale to our home in Mazatlan, we did exactly what Rick recommended...it was perfect. When we first started driving, we did the trip in one loonnngg day..exhausting but we were younger back then! Jajajaja

tomgates
Los Arcos is a good inexpensive oceanfront motel in Mazatlan.
tomgates
Maybe Los Arcos is not there anymore. Can't find it on Expedia.
Susy Wilson
We also traveled from Nogales to Lake Chapala just last month and stayed the first night in Novajoa and the second in Mazatlan and arriving at Lake Chapala on the afternoon of the 3rd day. It made a pretty easy drive each day with the drive from Mazatlan to Lakeside being the highlight of that trip. On our way back however we went to San Carlos and it was so absolutely beautiful we will definitely have to figure out how to make it one of our stops between Lake Chapala and Nogales. It is only about 5 hours south of Nogales however so that might not be optimal for most people especially if you are focused on arrival and not on the journey. If the journey is important make sure to check out San Carlos.....just amazingly gorgeous! White sand beaches and turquoise sea.....seriously stunning! Did you stop at Mazatlan for the 1st night on your way back up or did you drive further north for your 1st night? I would like to get to San Carlos without having to drive the 9 1/2 hrs from Mazatlan. Also will you be back before I leave on the 23rd so I can return the box ? Cheers
Susy Wilson
We did stop in Mazatlan for the first night driving north. We stayed in a pet friendly new motel right off the highway. It is called El Descanso Inn and you need to call them directly or book through Booking, com. They have a pool and a small restaurant:-) I am home now. We have to drive to the border ourselves to renew our tourist visa I guess because we do not want to go into the US at this time to deal with the permanent visa while the Corona virus is still an issue. We may head out on Wednesday to do that but should be back in a day or two.
Frank Zuniga
Hello we are moving to Mexico in October. It appears you’ve traveled into Mexico recently. We will be entering Mexico at Nogales. Did you have issues with entering Mexico due to covid? We are planning on towing a small enclosed trailer. Are the hotel parking lots secure?
