Chop
Hello. We have been told that some banks require you to be a permanente or temporal in order to be able to open a new bank account. But that other banks allow you to open a bank account even if you are only here on a tourist visa. Just wondering if folks here on the forum can point us in the direction of banks that will allow someone on a tourist visa to open a new bank account. Thanks for your help! rafterbr
I opened an account at Santander on a tourist visa. I had to furnish 2 or 3 mexican references. I used my gardener and maid.
mudgirl
Some friends just opened an account at Intercam with only a tourist visa. They did have to provide 2 local references, but both of those were permanent residents, wasn't required for the references to be Mexican citizens. Travis
Both Multiva and Intercam in Ajijic will open a simple checking/debit card account with a tourist visa.
Pax_Orbis
We opened a checking account at Multiva in August using only a tourist visa, and without having any local references. In September we added a Certificate of Deposit by telephone and wired the funds to Mexico from outside the country. Good luck.
