According to Mexican television, hundreds of gas stations in Guad are closed.

Visiting in the state of Guanajuato, all stations are out of gas. No idea when we will be able to get back to Lakeside.

I was in Guadalajara yesterday many gas stations closed and many with long lines. Viva Mexico.  In the U. S. so many stations with gas below 2 bucks a gallon . The U. S. is the number one producer of petroleum in the world with more to come.

Propane shortage in many places as well. Couldn't get any cylinders delivered here in Sayulita for 2 weeks over the holidays. same all over the area. Luckily I had a small barbeque sized tank that was half full, but shut the water heater off the minute it had heated up enough for a shower, then lit again right before the next shower. Ate salads and sandwiches or went out to eat. Make sure you're topped up.

There was no regular gas available at either Pemex or BP starting early this A.M.  Since people are buying premium that too will be running out fast.

This is a result of clamping down on the gas pipeline theft.

No gas, no theft.  No gas no work production. and so on

At 6pm, there was verde but no roja at the BP by Los Sabinos in west Ajijic, and the lineup was 5 cars long at each pump. The new BP by Arileo's, further west, had no cars and verde, roja, and diesel available.

Viva AMLO!!!

Here we go folks, the Socialist Revolution has begun! Can you say Venezuela? Less than a month into his reign he has made this stupid mistake. As the article states it is 14x the cost to transport fuel by tankers rather than pipeline, and how about the added pollution problem as well as traffic congestion. Where are his Socialist ideals on this? I have an idea AMLO; why not propose and enact a new law to punish the pipe tapping thieves with a minimum 10 year jail sentence?

We went to Costco, just came back.  Starting with the (new) westside BP all stations were operating with no lines between it and the Joco bypass.  Totally different story once you get out on the main road to GDL.  Most stations closed and the few that are open had really long lines.Price of regular (verde) now over 20 pesos per liter.

Unfortunately, the gasoline thieves are greatly aided and abetted by Pemex employees, despite the fact they are among the best paid in Mexico already.  If Mexico wants reliable and reasonably priced gas it just needs to look NOB where the private sector is not only providing same but also managing to have all the refineries needed and a record breaking supply of crude to supply them.  Thanks to Pemex, Mexico has neither.

Respectfully, AMLO is mistaken to believe throwing good taxpayer money after bad will make a difference with Pemex.  These problems will continue until it is realized that the private sector simply can and does this job much better.  Pemex is just another corrupt government entitity and will remain so as long as government owns and operates it.

Not too worried, like Jonny Boy, I can burn diesel, bio-diesel, used cooking oil, home heating oil (mind you - impossible to find here). The pipelines have to be shut down in the same way the plumbing in your house would have to be shut down, to find tap ins and leaks.

These are hardly Socialist moves. There are many who advocate a National Energy Policy for the U.S. But the election went the other way, offering unfettered power to oil companies, oil exploration, and allowing "dirty" coal. Those who advocate a Green "New Deal" are not socialists either - just wanting to save a dying planet while at the same time creating jobs.

We went to BP a couple of hours ago and there was nobody so I guess it depends on the time of the day..

Mainecoons the police and some politicians are in on the theft from the pipelines as well so between the Pemex employees and the police they are doing a great job at ripping off the country..

Good read on this topic here:

Interestingly, it is claimed the other forms of theft which are considerably larger than pipeline tapping are largely organized by Pemex employees.

It would make sense because the employees, ex employees and some of the management had to be involved , there is no way some outsiders could have everything organized and under control without anyone from Pemex knowing about it. AMLO has his work cut out. Some people n Puebla and other parts claim the governor was involved as well. The fish stinks from the head and AMLO has his work cut out.. Good luck to him.

I own a nursing home. Our regular gas delivery guy said he had no gas. Days later he finally arrived but limited us to a 1000 peso. We use that much a week or more.

Are the cartels stealing propane from pipelines also?

Another thought the cartels have no problem hi-jacking trucks. It may be easier the steal gasoline from the trucks.

The first time I hear gun control from the new beloved president's mouth I am out of here. Vamos y ver.

What does gun control have to do with gas shortage and how does that affect you??

FOr all the people who cannot take a little shortage because the president want to crack down on the raping going on in Pemex go back home.. Something needs to be done about the huachicoleros and the organized crime who are  taking over thanks to the  bureaucrats and their complices. They have taken over the areas of the pipelines those areas are now pretty dangerous .  I am all for the president cleaning up house.

Get rid of all Socialism, public schools, public roads, public healthcare, Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, fire departments, police departments, well, heck, anything that tax dollars pay for that benefits a society. That should destroy a county.

Do you think he can automatically change the MX Constitution? Guns are allowed in Mexico. It was changed in 1917 that private citizens cannot drive or walk around with guns anymore.  1971 rev.  "Article 10: The inhabitants of the United Mexican States have the right to keep arms in their homes, for security and legitimate defense, with the exception of those prohibited by federal law and those reserved for the exclusive use of the Army, Navy, Air Force and National Guard. Federal law will determine the cases, conditions, requirements, and places in which the carrying of arms will be authorized to the inhabitants"
