Palliative Care

Recommended Posts

Hello Zeb - It sounds as though you, or someone you care for, is in a difficult spot. I worked in hospice care in the US. I think it might be helpful if you were more specific as to the type of care you are looking for - end of life, pain management as opposed to curative care, etc. I hope you can find the care you want and the support you will need.

Kam, a Hospice is so needed here and with your background , it sounds like you could be a huge help in getting one started.  I can put you and anyone else with this type of background in touch with my friend who started the award winning Hospice in Mazatlan...still going strong and such a benefit to all.  Please consider it!

Dra. Anna at the Seguro Popular community clinic in Chapala is a palliative care specialist, although she practices as a general care doctor. She might have some leads or interested in helping to form a publicly funded hospice. The General Hospital Occidente in Guadalajara has a palliative care ward and just opened new "Geriatrica" wing with 345 beds. They are to serve a need for the entire state of Jalisco, but also house another wide range of specialties. I'm a bit confused though, a Dra. there told me that in the Mexican version of palliative care, the patients do not stay overnight. So I don't know if it is a hospice or palliative or geriatric care specialist you are looking for. Dra Anna would know, you have to get there early and join the lineup for when the clinic opens, then a lineup begins at her door just before 9 am (last door on the left in the waiting room), and she books appointment for the morning or later on that day. I mention this alternative, because some private doctors/private hospitals will bleed your wallet dry (not Vetteforron though). Dra. Anna speaks good English and seems to be a very kind and caring person. I hope this information is correct, she may have been doing her one year of social service which is required to become a doctor, at least in Jalisco.

Best wishes for Kirk.
