Taxation?

A question from a friend considering relocating here from South Africa,  if folks work online for businesses outside Mexico, are they required to pay taxes IN Mexico?

And pensions from outside Mexico...social security etc...no taxation on those if she lives in Mexico, correct?

Yes, she will seek legal advice here as well, just thought I'd post this for her first. Thanks. :)

She's worried because she found THIS on the Price Waterhouse website

''

From Price Waterhouse website: " Mexico Map Resident individuals are subject to Mexican income tax on their worldwide income, regardless of their nationality. Non-residents, including Mexican citizens who can prove residence for tax purposes in a foreign country, are taxed only on their Mexican-source income."

Even Price Waterhouse can be wrong. I would suggest that she NOT get her information from the internet and do a face to face with somebody knowledgeable and up to date on her query.

edited to add: it's about tax treaties between some countries and double taxation.

The USA and Eritrea are the only two countries that tax worldwide income by citizenship.

That is correct and unfortunate.  What we have is taxation without representation because no one represents the specific interests of the expat community who are situated in many different countries.
