blankletmusic
We used Lloyds bank in Ajijic. Wrote a check in USD and received pesos. That was a long time ago, though. What's the best method these days? (other than ATMs)?
johanson
I recently posted this somewhere on the forum. Sure I can go to my bank in Mexico and cash a US check. But I find that I get the best rate of exchange if I wire US funds for free (in my case only up to 3 times per year) from my US Merrill Lynch brokerage account to my Actinver brokerage account in Mexico. I place it in a US dollar account I have here and then on the advise of my Actinver broker, I convert to pesos when the rates are good. The last time was at about the end of June when I got 20.8 pesos per dollar. Today the spot rate is closer to 18.5 pesos per dollar Why can I only do this for free only three 3 times per year? Because I don't have enough money in my Merrill Lynch Brokerage account. Those who have more money than I, (the vast majority) get to wire funds more often per year for free
