The Lakeside clinic that treats disabled veterans

Recommended Posts

I was seen there a few years back for a separated shoulder. One initial visit and a follow up. Billed tricare nonstop for a month. Called ticare to separate my name from the fraudulent charges.

Patient care needs work. Billing needs to be watched closely.

Perhaps Lakeside Care would like to respond and so set aside rumours and such???

Rumors? I gathered this data from personal experience and non stop denied EOB emails that followed. Of course it’s par far course any questionable expat experience that isn’t awesome and great is ruled fiction or untrue. Oh well. Positive note they sure have patient billing down.

They’re still in business? I figured since I was the only patient in the huge building both times.

Yes, they handle Vet problems and take Tricare as well as some of the major NOB insurances...

Yes, they did have billing problems several years ago from a contracted vendor... Now they handle this in-house...

As a vet and an officer of the local American Legion, I do highly recommend the group...

I have used them for years. If a specialist is needed they use Quality Care or transport you to Guad, no extra charge. I've had no billing problems and anyone who deals with insurance companies deserves sainthood!

Along the same lines. The VA has the “VA CHOICE” program. Essentially it allows veterans to seek care if certain criteria are met. Ie appointments booked over 30 days out etc. From my understanding the program ran out of funding a month after it was approved. I’m sure there’s money still in the budget but not like before. Either way, If I chose to use the standard veteran benifit will it cover me in Mexico. Or maybe choice would work?

If what you say is true and the clinic has improved then maybe I’ll schedule some preventative care. Medicine is after all a business and sometimes it takes time to work out the bugs

Only if you are disabled, the percentage minimum I do not know. I am a vet (woo hoo) and explored it with them.

I have a 10% disability (woo hoo) and it is not enough. Some say above 50 and others say it must be 100, I never bothered to find out the correct answer.

10% is something. It’s a foot in the door. But yeah. You’re looking at a 90% rating if you want some attention. You can always appeal. Ebenifits streamlines it the process and provides for a super speedy decision. But moving from 10% to 90-100% might be a challenge

I am not looking to increase my disability percentage. It is what it is and if I forced someone to wait longer that would be a real bad thing for me to do. I can always receive treatment for the actual injury itself if I want to go to a VA facility. I was recently told that I might qualify for hearing aid assistance due to all the noise of the rifle range which we all experienced. In my case, I participated in the firing of the main gun of the then current battle tank hundreds of times so if I ever get motivated enough to go, I might actually qualify. I do not in any way consider myself a wounded warrior, I saw plenty of the real ones to know how fortunate I was.

I was not disabled, just disillusioned, and got hearing aids in the US. They are not the cheapies like at Costco, but the latest and best by the company of your choice. I got new ones every three years. My latest, Widex Dream, have Bluetooth connectivity and retail for $6, 250 USD a pair. Thank you VA.

Be aware that to get the aids it would require at least two trips. One for the test to determine your loss and need with a second for the fitting. They order all the aids directly from the manufacturer, one patient at a time. The aids really improved my life.

Sounds like a good reason to go up and spend some time in the RGV.

If so, go to the Harlingen clinic. Get an appointment for an examination with the male doctor, the woman is a total jerk. If I think of the doctor's name, I will send it to you. I know other vets in Chapala that see him.

The clinic says:

To enhance services provided to Veterans in a timely manner, the following eligibility criteria have been established for audiology services:

  • Complete audiological services, INCLUDING hearing aids as an entitlement
  • 0% service connection for impaired hearing, ear condition, tinnitus
  • 10-100% service connection for ANY condition
  • Ex-POW
  • Purple Heart recipients
  • Aid and Attendance recipients
  • House bound
  • Hearing evaluation: INCLUDING eligibility for hearing aids if a registered Veteran
  • Service connection for ANY condition other than impaired hearing
  • Non-service connected Veterans who are registered with STVHCS for their health care

I just looked up the VA hearing test and prosthetic coverage. I was not aware that even existed! Plus it’s not any old hearing aid but quality top 10% of all hearing aids. The VA is always surprising me with cutting corners here but channeling big money to something like this! I never imagined hearing aids were so expensive either!

How long was your process from making an appointment to going home with a snazzy pair of Bluetooth ears?

Does that mean you can answer your phone using those?

Is there a list or resource of VA Benifits that a majority of veterans don’t realize exist?

Thanks for that!!!

The doctor at the clinic's name is Dr. Palacio. The hardest part is getting the appointment. After that, the aids are ordered and will be in the clinic in about two weeks, but getting the appointment for the fitting will be much longer than that. By the way, just being a vet is not your ticket to benefits. You must enroll in the program first and get a primary health provider that will refer you for the first time. It is the government, ya know.

I can answer the phone, but it requires that I carry the remote control to operate the phone. No biggy as I carry it to change mode depending on how far the screaming kids are.

Definitely yes.  In our RV days, I registered and was treated in FL, TX, NY, OR, and now, in AZ. Your records will follow you, but you must register locally, in the area closest to where you are located. That is how you get evaluated and assigned to a primary care provider.

You can sign up for health benifits online or over the phone. Once approved you set an appointment up with a primary care provider. Get some tests, talk about you’re healthcare objectives, get your VIC card and start a medical record. That record will follow you to any VA and accessible to you by accessing it through https://www.myhealth.va.gov/.

Like Gringo said you can visit any VA but you need to register with the facility first. Since i usually fly up it was up to me where I wanted to go. I chose Northern Arizona since I heard good things. I’ve registered at Fresno, Phoenix, San Diego and Northern California.

You guys probably know all this and I’m preaching to the choir. If I’m missing anything let me know
