Restaurante La Troje

Been going there for close to 12 years. Never, ever, been disappointed with service or food.

Of course, YMMV.

Delighted to know that La Troje is still being recommended. It is only of only three or four restaurants I deemed worthy of inclusion in my "Western Mexico: A Traveler's Treasury" ~ even in its first edition 25 years ago! (And it remains in the 4th edition, published a few years ago). And the other restaurants in the book? Well, that would be telling... Enjoy your Mazamitla trip and meal.

Most of the road works are complete, just a couple short detours.  Not hard at all.

La Troje is a great restaurant and very interesting place but is outside of Mazamitla itself.  On the square, directly opposite the church is a small hotel with restaurant.  We riders eat breakfast there and it is always good.

Love Mazamitla.  Shows what happens when people take pride in the public spaces of their town and they have a local government that does its job.  Best to go up during the week though as the town is flooded with Tapatios on the weekend.

About a month ago there were a couple of short detours and some construction before you get to the Mazamitla turnoff.  It didn't look like they would be required much longer so maybe they are gone.

Only slow part of the drive now is wading through San Luis Soyatlan.  They are even fixing some of the years-old potholes on the Jocotepec bypass but watch out because there's a new area of subsidence just west of the previous one which has been sorta patched up.  Look for it and slow way down to cross it.

The road from Joco to Mazamitla is all good, even the topes at Tepehuaje are all gone except a couple of very small ones after you pass Tepehuaje.   The current road construction is between Tuxcueca and Tizapan El Alto.

If you are bored, a new pueblo magico is Jiquilpan, Michoacan and it is only about 20 minutes East of Mazamitla via San Jose de Gracia.  Take 110 from San Jose de Gracia and you can avoid Sahuayo altogether.  Not as touristy as Mazamitla.
