Rustico restaurant downtown Ajijic is gone

The 50% higher prices did them in for me. This isn't Canada or the U.S. I'm not paying 90 pesos for a bowl of "healthy" vegetable soup.

Geez, their breakfasts and lunch salads were very reasonably priced.  I wasn't even aware they had soup!  However, I suppose it would depend on how large the serving was and what the ingredients were (or how much was broth and how much vegetables, etc.)  I know that Min Wah has inexpensive soup but I am not a fan of chicken parts and gristle in my mouth.

I don't get the comparison. Perhaps your concept of high prices and mine are different. So be it. But I'm willing to bet that's the reason they closed.

Carlos (the owner) had just returned from a vacation and last time we spoke with him there was no indication of problems. My guess is something unexpected happened for him to close so suddenly. It certainly wasn't the parking situation as the restaurant was often packed even while construction was going on. I doubt it was "high" prices since so many people were still going there until they closed. We went there once or twice a week and loved the breakfast (which were very reasonably priced). Would love to know what happened, if anybody is aware. We're very sad to see them closed, and extremely curious.
