rvanparys
What are the requirements for buying a used car and getting it registered and licensed in Jalisco? Where can these official requirements be found? Thanks!
el bartman
Try doing a search on the Webboard. This has been kicked around for years with the mutual consensus that it is inadvisable. If you are determined to do it best check with a lawyer and unless your Spanish is 100 percent take an interpreter with you to Guadalajara while you sit from 5:30 in the morning until 3 in the afternoon getting Jalisco plates
Mainecoons
Rafa at the car wash in Riberas imports high quality used cars at good prices from the Merida area where they haven't been beat to death by the bad roads of this area and Jalisco. Importing them requires an inspection/VIN verification in GDL that can be difficult at best. He takes care of all of that. I understand there are facilitators who will assist with this process. I'd contact Rafa or Spencer and perhaps they can refer you.
Natasha
DO NOT do this yourself! A friend bought out-of-state car at car tianguis in Guad -- taking along a trusted and supposedly knowledgeable friend. Turned out it had MAJOR mechanical problems as result of an accident. Cost her BIG bucks to repair (and then she got rid of it). If it had been a Jalisco car, recaudadora could have told her about the accident, but they have no access to other states. On the other hand, you can totally trust Rafa in Riberas as long as he has what you want. Otherwise, stick with Jalisco-plated cars AND check out their "past" before purchase.
