babyface
Cafe Magana (now closed) used to have good french fries & Heinz ketchup. Does anyone have a recommendation for fries in the Lakeside area that are really good?
ComputerGuy
Mario's in San Antonio used to have the best; not so sure now...
hensley
Lety's Hamburgers and fries are very good in San Antonio, and yes I know it is a seafood place but like their food there.
ComputerGuy
A new Ribs&Burger place upstairs at Plaza Bugambilias; saw a sign last night for a burger/fries/drink combo for $55p. Might be worth a try.
Alpha1
http://adelitabarandgrill.com/ The best fries I have ever had anywhere...and I have had more than I wish to admit!
Xena
Bruno’s in Ajijic and Toca Modera in Chapala (across the street from the malecon) are my favorite places for burgers and fries. The fries at both places are exquisite.
AngusMactavish
The fries that the American Legion Chapala offer are consistently good.
Sea
Trip's are pretty good, my favorite. Hamburger stand in the food court at Centro Laguna Mall.
Ferret
All these comments on where to get great fries and not one person has stated how they like their fries? Short & fat, long and skinny, wedges, crisp all the way through or crisp on the outside and soft in the middle. Lots of variations. I'm laughing because, before eating our orders of fries, my hubby would always dig through both orders and pick out the crispy overdone (imho) ones and toss me the others. The biggest problem in most cooked orders of fries here is the inability to wait until the fat is the right temperature in the fryer. imho of course. At both Bruno’s and Toca Modera (my recommendations) the fries are wedges. They are golden crispy on the outside and soft in the middle, and perfectly salted. Bisbee Gal
Brunos wedges are great....nice seasoning. For thinner fries, Menendero Lake (the burger place at Colon and Constitucion in Ajijic).
AngusMactavish
For wedges I like the Container.

Gotta have Heinz! Too funny! I prefer the Del Monte ketchup... but only with grilled cheese. I would never, ever sully great fries with ketchup. A little salt and real malt vinegar for me. The Food Container also serves delicious wedge French fries. Also, their burgers and sandwiches are great.

CHILLIN
If anyone can mule down these potato seeds, seeds not seed potatoes (they will never be allowed) I have a beautiful organic/natural compost heap that is empty right now. Trying to avoid Xrays, which kills seeds. http://tatermaterseeds.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=
tomgates
Trip's, Mama's, Bruno's all are good. Skinny at Trip's, crinkle at Mama's and wedges at Bruno's. We bring a container of Heinz catsup to Mama's, but Heinz served at Trip's and Bruno's.
gringal
I can't help but giggle here: over 20 posts on French Fries.......high up there on the list of "bad for you" food. Well, here goes: Arileo's sweet potato '"fries" are delicious and probably not too bad for ya. More like wedges, though.
Canada-Mike
FOREST GRILL, west Ajijic, before La Huerta. All their fries are sweet potato and served with cheese. Sort of a Mexican poutine. Crisp and delicious; long and thin.
ComputerGuy
A little burger and taco place on Ramon Corona, just west of the San Antonio Plaza and Mario's, serves skinny fries, like McDonalds and Trip's. Because they are skinny, the crisp fast and cook all the way through inside. Skinny fries are a fast-food chain staple. I can't find any history on them, but my suspicion is that Ray Crock created them for faster serviceable cooking. He was obsessed with getting McDonald's orders out as fast as possible. Anyway, I headed there again on Saturday night. Total for a hamburger special with fries, including cheese and bacon, was 45p. Two of us ate: one had Oaxaca cheese instead of American slices, and both had a good-sized glass of agua fresca, for $112p. Match that anywhere around here, with a homemade patty and some really good fries.
