Guadalajara/Chapala Highway

Does anyone know of anyway to put pressure on someone in government in order to re-do the highway between Chapala and Guadalajara?  Has anyone been driving it lately?  They will fill some of the holes and leave others and the next time you go the ones that were not filled are now huge.  We lost a tire hitting one of these while trying to miss another one.  It is extremely hazardous especially when one is forced to drive it at night.

My understanding is that the repair will be (has already occurred) at the Tapatio Hotel in Guadalajara, and another stretch to/around Santa Rosa. I don’t know that place... is it a neighborhood or ?

None-the-less it did not sound to me like the whole road is destined for repair... but what do I know.

I have traveled that road off and on since 1998. I have seen it worse but seldom have I seen it much better pot-whole wise than it currently is. I drove on it south Tuesday.

The work near Tapatio Hotel is on the Guadalajara Carretera, not the Guad/Chapala Carrretera.    On the Guad/Chapala, work is complete on the dangerous curves that used to have a big dip.  All smooth now.  Repaving is underway on a section(s) further North.  I have no idea how much they're doing but repaving, at least portions is underway.

It’s Mexico.  Enough said.

Wrong!  The correct answer is ...... It's Jalisco!  Jalisco is notorious for having some of the worst roads in the Republic.  Think Virginia or Arkansas vs North Carolina and Georgia.  The carreteras libres or free roads are atrocious in Jalisco.  Go over to other states, even much poorer ones, and the roads are much much better.

no Chiapas is way worst.. Have you driven the Ocosingo Palenque road lately.. whole sections of roads have collapsed and have been that way for the last year.  Try the roa to Villahermosa from Chamula or San Cristóbal. that is a good one too.. They have the excuse of being the poorest state in the union and have many earthquakes. we had a 5.1 today so it does not help but the roads here are pretty bad too..Of course Jalisco does not have much of an excuse..

I've been riding motos for nearly 7 years around here and I can assure you Chapala Highway is worse than I've ever seen it and basically most of the rest are in Jalisco with the exception of those pricey toll roads.  If you want to see a real horror, ride the "periferico" from Tlajomulco over to Tala.  There has been basically no maintenance on the Joco bypass for over a year even though it has parts near to Ruta 15 where there is nothing but crumbled pavement and on the other end, there is a collapsed section that some one painted a white stripe next to, probably to warn people.  A while back I saw a story that road maintenance funds had been cut drastically and based on what I'm seeing it shows.

For a state that is supposed to be one of the richest in Mexico, the roads are pathetic.  When I ride in the northern Mexican states it is almost like being in another country.

We have lived here for 13 years and this road is worse than we have ever experienced.  We don't drive at night unless we must ... A couple of our specialists do not start seeing patients until their work days at the hospital are over.  Therefore, with the time change and it getting dark earlier we are having to make the trip home in the dark.  I guess it doesn't matter as it was broad daylight when we lost the tire.  I just thought that since someone or some people were instrumental in getting a bike lane through Ajijic that they could maybe work on getting this highly traveled and important road resurfaced.
