Is a 4-wheeler considered a vehicle on a 6 month visa?

Recommended Posts

I read that if on a tourist visa, the auto and the 4-wheeler that came with it both go back within the 6 months. .But if you own a residence here, you keep the 4 wheeler here permenantly with an import tax? Anyone know the law on that?

Thanks

.....and where will you use that off road vehicle?  License plates, Insurance?   If you want something small, but legal, consider a smart car. You can buy one at the Mercedes dealership in Guadalajara.  We did & loved it for batting around and for long trips.

Oops!  As a tourist, you probably cannot register anything. Since you own a residence, you really should have a residence visa. It will be very beneficial whenever you sell your home.

In Chapala, but elsewhere, like Ocotlan, they don't ask for more than a passport, proof of address, and cash.

It was recently stated by local transito reps that 4 wheelers and golf carts are not legal to drive on any street anywhere at anytime.  You pay your money and you take your chances.

It was said by the second in command for Jalisco traffic enforcement at a meeting last Monday, November 13, so it is a State regulation, not just local. Violators subject to vehicle confiscation and/or fines.
