Terry Esquivel
Do any restaurants or other establishments allow one to use credit cards in Ajijic/Lakeside now? While visiting in 2014 I was unable to use them at all. I realize not all establishments will accept them. I'm on my way down and am looking for current information regarding which, if any, establishments in the area now accept major credit cards. Thanks! Ferret
Very few restaurants but I've been using a cc in both Walmart and Superlake for quite a number of years now. My Canadian cards have chips in them. I do not have American or Mexican cc's.
sputnik
Dont know if you need info about "debit" cards but we always use our U.S. debit card at Walmart, Soriana, some restaurants, hardware stores. Someone else may know about "credit cards"
Bisbee Gal
More and more stores accept credit cards and I use them BUT only if they use a chip reader in front of me. I see more and more eateries with cc signs, but I would hesitate to use my cc anywhere without a chip reader AND anywhere that the card goes out of my sight (i.e., whisked away from my table). US cards have the same protection against fraud, 0$ loss, no matter what country you live in or use it in. OP, many restaurants take them, but most required the tip to be in cash. I had local furniture store tell me the usually charged 3%, but then quickly said, not this time Make sure you have a cc that does NOT have foreign transaction fees...most of the newest latest ones do not. I have a few old ones in my wallet that DO charge FTF, so I don't use them outside the US.

dorisb
Here is a list of restaurants where I have used an American credit card without additional fees along with the last date I used a card there.
