bontepar
So much for the right to own guns, the senseless killings goes on, How many more mass killings will have to occur before the US comes to his senses? and start putting gun controls in place?? Syver117
A little education...The Fifth Amendment (Amendment V) to the United States Constitution is part of the Bill of Rights and protects individuals from being compelled to be witnesses against themselves in criminal cases. Has nothing to do with the right to bear arms. Just saying, you must be Canadian ?

Yes, must be. The SECOND amendment to the US Constitution guarantees the right to bear arms. The Constitution can be amended if ratified by Congress and approved by 3/4 of the States. Now let's say it is. How did the Amendment creating Prohibition work out? Just food for thought, not trying to start a political discussion. Alfa
I think there is a more than subtle difference between the two issues, A drinker often get a feeling of pleasure and maybe euphoria from a drink of alcohol which would account for the resistance to prohibition but I doubt if anyone gets the same reaction from shooting a gun at another person. pappysmarket
I would venture to guess less than .01 % of gun owners have ever shot a gun at another person, unless as a military member. If you throw out all the illegal guns the number would be radically lower still. Most gun owners hope to never need to use their gun for self protection but like the idea that it is legal to have one.
rvanparys
Historically, both Hitler and Stalin removed guns from the populous ... Just a thought...
alex45920
The Ssecond Amendment to the United States Constitution guarantees the right to possess firearms ""in order to maintain a well regulated militia."" The SCOTUS has affirmed the government's right to regulate possession of firearms, even in its most definitive decision on the subject, in which the high court overturned an outright ban on handguns in Washington, DC. Only illiterate people and the willfully ignorant among us accept the gun lobby's alternative interpretation of the Second Amendment.
gringal
The question is: does the "right to bear arms" include open carry of automatic weapons in places like Nevada? They are very obviously way beyond the need for self defense. The death toll in Las Vegas would have been very low if the man had to shoot the victims one by one with the kind of ordinary hand gun a person might want to defend his person or property.
