Mother Nature is Certainly at it Again!
The Lakeside community is being asked to step forward to help the states of Oaxaca and Chiapas and now Mexico City and Puebla with disaster relief due to the devastating amount of earthquake damage suffered in those areas.

The following Lakeside organizations encourage all members of our community to make direct cash donations to provide much needed relief. This appeal is endorsed by:
American Legion Post 7, Butterflies en Mexico by Mariposa Project, el corazón creativo, Lake Chapala Center for Spiritual Living, Lakeside AG (Lakeside Assistance Group), NCA, Los Niños de Chapala y Ajijic A.C., Open Circle, Operación AMOR, and of course The Lake Chapala Society.

We have done a little homework and encourage you to donate to one or both of the following organizations:

Direct Relief (https://www.directrelief.org/) - a U.S. based charity that focuses on medical assistance in disaster zones. Direct Relief has received the highest 4 STAR rating by Charity Navigator. To Donate through "Direct Relief":
Go to: https://www.directrelief.org/
Choose "Donate Now".
Choose "Direct my donation to Mexico Earthquake"

GlobalGiving (https://www.globalgiving.org/) - a U.S. based charity that connects donors with community-based projects that need support. GlobalGiving has also received the highest 4 STAR rating by Charity Navigator. https://www.globalgiving.org/dy/v2/checkout/billing/

We thank you and we know that the recipients of your generosity will be eternally grateful. Please Help.

Mexico City earthquake

Here’s How You Can Help Mexico Earthquake Victims

Christina Austin

11:49 AM ET

On Tuesday, a devastating earthquake hit Mexico. With a magnitude of 7.1 magnitude, the quake was powerful enough to level buildings in Mexico City. Over 200 people have been reported dead, including children at a demolished school. Many more victims are still missing as search and rescue workers continue to search the rubble of fallen buildings.

In response to the tragedy, many organizations are accepting donations to help the Mexico City earthquake victims. Below, a list of reputable outfits actively working to aid relief efforts. (Note: Many of the pages are written in Spanish, so try translating the page using Google to make sure you are filling out the donations forms correctly.)

Today we went to the asbestos in Guadalajara and purchased things on the red cross list of needed items. Everything from cases of tuna to adult diapers, we stopped shopping when the suv was packed solid.

It felt like we were helping and I wish we could do more.

Where are you taking your items?

Local expat Face Book groups are directly involved and have several suggestions of where to take donations and locally organized groups are sending caravans, at least one leaving this afternoon, to Mexico City to help the disaster victims. Trip's Burgers is taking donations until 2:00 this afternoon and then their donations, combined with others, will be headed to the disaster scene. Dental Express is accepting donations, as is Cruz Roja and more places I can't think of right now.

Yesterday I bought a LOT of items and took them to the kiosk in the Ajijic plaza.  I think the Chapala plaza is also accepting items.

That's what I wanted to know.  Thanks!
