Wookie
I just talked to the owners of a new Indian Restaurant that is going to open at the plaza Centro Laguna near the Casino in a week or two. The name will be Indian Curry! Sooooooo we can't miss it ?. Look for it soon.
gringohombre
Centro Laguna is becoming quite the Comida Spot. Good for me since i live in San Antonio. When it first opened about 7 years ago the parking lot was always almost empty for years. Now you can get parking but is almost full most of the time. Congratulations to the developers for their foresight.

I know this is fly season but this was over the top. I won't go back until later in the season. Will the new place have indoor seating?

Ask them to turn the overhead fans on - it is cooler, but keeps the flies away.

Wookie
I don't remember the owner's names. Just came across them while having lunch at Rick's Japanese Restaurant and we started talking. They did introduce themselves but I can not remember their names. Also, I am not sure if this restaurant will be in the food court or not ... they just said it was next to the casino. We haven't been over that way yet to see any construction activity that might be taking place.

We will be reopening for the new season next month. we grind all of our own spices, make homemade chutneys and everyone loves our samosas and naan. We have a basic vegan menu with plenty of other dishes like chicken tikka masala, vindaloo, coconut shrimp and lamb madras, so come by and check us out. Thanks, gringal. this is a prime example why we don't post often, someone who can't do any thing always sniping at someone trying to do the right thing. Mother was right, if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything. Hey, we wish the new guys luck, this is not an easy cuisine, and has enough variety for the 2 of us.... Wookie
Sorry, but I agree with Angus Mactavish. It is one thing for one of us to "pop in" on another thread with information or opinion about another restaurant ... but I think it an entirely different thing for another restaurant to "pop in". And every time I walk by, you're either closed or the place is practically empty. I know the restaurant business is difficult, but customers need to feel confidence in a place. They like to see it busy, or at least see many good reviews on TripAdvisor, etc. I wish you success this time around.

Nothing whatsoever "wrong" with many offerings. I don't think I'm revealing anything I shouldn't, but as I understand it, this couple originally started the restaurant as a way for younger family members to have a business. Then, the younger ones left for jobs NOB and the original couple were left to handle it themselves in their retirement. Not an easy transition. Their changes are about trying to make it work better. Personally, I prefer "Jasmine's". Too many are competing on the "international cuisine" already. I've dined there on several occasions and have not been disappointed, even though it's not my favorite style of Indian cuisine. That varies widely across that country. Back in CA, we had lots of choices and I'm happy that here in Mexico, the amazing thing is that we are not just limited to "Mexican" food alone. We do have choices among various cuisines from around the world. Maybe we should be cutting a little slack in our sometimes downright cruel critiques as we compare the best from where we came from to what we have here? We're not willing to pay for that level of chef in the first place, are we, so why should any relocate to this little backwater of thrifty folks (mostly)? Yes, I was lucky enough to spend most of my life enjoying what was available in both the San Francisco Bay Area and Los Angeles, but life moves on, and here I am in "Gringolandia", Mexico. Love it anyway. My major criteria for a restaurant is that the food served is healthy, of good quality, prepared well and that the service people are paying attention to the customer. We'll see how the new Indian restaurant does on that basis.
