Ketamine IV used for anxiety & depression

Why would anyone recommend that someone else just go to the drug store and take some drug without them consulting their doctor? Incredibly irresponsible and dangerous. Lyrica is not some benign thing to self-administer as if it is aspirin. Has extremely dangerous side effects (40pound weight gains, hair loss, just to name a couple), ADDICTIVE, almost impossible to stop taking without horrible withdrawal symptoms. Harder to kick than heroin.

Why wouldn't a person ask a doctor about a medication that the person heard about? It would be incredibly responsible to believe all the medication TV commercials without asking about them.

I mentioned that it might be better than Ketamine. Hopefully, she has enough sense to find out about it just like asking a doctor about Ketamine.

People need to take some responsibility and investigate for themselves what they are told. You are assuming the person asking about Ketamine is too dumb to find out about other medications. I think she can ask her doctor herself.

Ketamine IV can be used for chronic pain. Why not try the generic Lyrica first? The generic is pregabalina and you can buy it at Farmacia Similares, 150 mg, 28 tablets for $159 and 25% off on Mondays. You don't need a prescription. It is great for pain, helping with sleep and has a tranquilizing effect. You are not supposed to drink with Lyrica so I assume it has a depressive quality.

Try it if you haven't,  before using something as strong as Ketamine.

Your first reply to this thread certainly sounds to me like you were just recommending that she go to the pharmacy, buy some (no prescription needed, you state) and try it. I did not assume anything about the OP's intelligence level.

The quantity of misinformation on this thread is ... appalling.

Normally I'm not bothered by topic drift but in this case I feel everyone would be better served if we stuck to the OP's question and only replied henceforth to report personal experience with the use of ketamine for anxiety or depression.

Why don't you ask the OP if she did that? This wasn't about you. If you are easily led, that's too bad. The generic Lyrica is safer than what she wants and the medicine she wants must be administered by a doctor. Finding a doctor in Mexico to administer it will be very difficult.

Has anyone used the above?

If so, could you please tell me who administered it and what were your results?  Please feel free to PM me.

This is a serious question and I would appreciate no negative comments unless they are in direct response to the post.

Thank you and have a wonderful day.

Hi Sandrita, I tried to PM you but it says you do not accept messages. Can you PM me?

I am a pain doctor (medical and interventional) still working part time in the USA.

Ketamine is an IV induction agent for anesthesia historically.  In high, rapid dosing for that purpose,  it is a dissociative drug that works by making a person hallucinate essentially.   It can cause convulsions.     This acts by blocking a central nervous system receptor called NMDA,  similar to the old animal tranquilizer PCP (phencyclidine) which was a drug abused in the 1980s.

Ketamine is used orally as a club drug, and in some people that are depressed,  it actually improves them for a month or so.   It has since been determined that a low, slowly administered dosage of ketamine acts mainly upon a different system that causes  a release of neurotransmitters associated with improving a depressed mood (the monoamines serotonin, norepinephrine and dopamine).    This has a rapid and marvelous effect on a suicidally depressed patient for weeks at a time,  although it is not a cure.   It is also being studied for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

It is now being given as a nasal spray for this purpose as well.   It can cause convulsions, so it should be given with someone able to control seizures in attendance.    I hope that may be helpful.
