vtarasov
Can someone please explain how CFE solar credits work? I am referring to credits for electricity generated by solar panels sold back to the grid. Do they expire? Do they convert to cash? Are there limits? What rate is used for crediting? Mainecoons
CFE does not actually reimburse you for surplus electricity from your solar system. They accrue monthly up to a one year limit which rolls over each month.
vtarasov
In order words CFE really does not want to buy any electricity from you - they will merely issue a temporary credit for any excess and will expire it at the end of the year? tomgates
I have had a surplus "credit" since shortly after our system was installed in May 2010. I still have a credit today and it has not "rolled over" as some say will happen. It is currently 1780 KwH surplus. We recently installed a mini-split a/c to make a serious dent in it! Mainecoons
CFE will not actually buy electricity from you, they will credit your production against your usage.
RickS
Is this 'credit' of KwH kept track of within the new meter they use (maybe it runs backwards when you are producing) or in a 'computer' at CFE offices? Or?
Mostlylost
The meter will record the watts purchased and the watts sent to the grid. On your bill they will show both and then the difference. You pay for the difference.

Or? Our meter which was installed with the solar system shows two numbers, one for consumption, one for production. If production exceeds consumption, you pay the minimum flat rate. If the reverse, you pay for the net kWh, consumption minus production. It is all figured out and shown on your bill.
tomgates
These are digital meters.
