bdmowers Posted June 14, 2017 Report Share Posted June 14, 2017 Anyone have an Acer laptop? I need help adjusting the webcam settings. I cannot find them anywhere even with trying to get help on the internet. Of course, it doesn`t exactly help that I have all Spanish screens like in the Control Panel (big mistake, never again!) Internet websites refer to a Crystal Eye and say you have to go there to make webcam settings changes. Can anyone shed any light on where to make adjustments to the webcam on a Spanish Windows 8? ComputerGuy Posted June 14, 2017 Report Share Posted June 14, 2017 In Windows 8 and 10, there is no Control Panel icon for webcams. Generally speaking, that software comes pre-installed as a program on the laptop, which you might find in the popup menu when you click the Start icon, perhaps under 'Acer'... or click on the Search icon and type camera. Skype also has adjustments for webcams, as it automatically recognizes same, and you can always install Skype in English. You can also go to the Acer website and search Support for your laptop model number (which should be on a sticker on the bottom of the laptop), and look for Camera/webcam, to download the proper software. According to the settings for the camera in Win 8.1, this is what it says: "You can change some options for your camera in Settings, like showing grid lines to help you compose a photo, or including location info in your photos." That`s it, how disappointing! Nothing relating to quality, light, etc. The Acer website had no webcam software. But I just found that indeed Skype has many adjustments and they stick with the onboard camera. Thanks, ComputerGuy! JohnNeu Posted July 10, 2020 Report Share Posted July 10, 2020 If you install Skype, it has the full webcam settings for things like brightness, contrast, saturation, hue, exposure, etc. and when adjusted it affects the webcam for all applications thereafter. You just have to then stop using the webcam in Skype and go back to your other application where you wanted to use the webcam (e.g. WIndows 10 Camera, or Microsoft Teams). JohnNeu Posted July 10, 2020 Report Share Posted July 10, 2020 Microsoft Skype offers webcam controls (exposure, brightness, contrast, saturation, sharpness, etc.) and is free. Once you apply the settings in Skype, those webcam settings are universal, meaning that they apply to all other apps/software that utilize the webcam -- you just need to then stop using the webcam in Skype, then use the webcam in your other software, such as Microsoft Windows 10 Camera app, or MS Teams. To adjust it further, you have to stop using it in that app, go back to Skype, adjust the "webcam settings" again, then stop using the webcam in Skype and return to your other app. Cyberlink YouCam is a great option for this, although it costs money, because you can view your webcam in YouCam, and then simultaneously use that same YouCam webcam feed in other software, and YouCam lets you not only adjust things like brightness and saturation, it also gives distortions, mosaics, overlays, lets you write & draw on your webcam image, etc. Jean Philippe Albert also wrote a little program to make the dialogue popup : https://github.com/jpalbert/webcam-settings-dialog-windows You will need to know how to modify a Windows batch script to edit it.
