ive been there several times. probably lakeside to SLP then thru rio verde to  Valles then south to Xilitla. check out hotel taninul, great place east of Valles on the tampico hwy, watch for the sign as you drive out of the hills and turn right, go mile and a half.. comfortable rooms, good food and big thermal sulphur swimming pool. fine place.

Xilitla is a very interesting place to visit. We ended up there several days into the swine flu epidemic many years ago. The park had been closed for several days. With a little propina we talked them into letting us in.

We were staying in Pozos de Minerales off hwy 57 between Queretero and San Luis Potosi. We took the mountain road starting at San Luis de la Paz to Xilitla.  Beautiful mountain scenery with most amazing site of a desert mountain on one side of the road and lush green trees on the other. We had reached the point separating high desert and the moist gulf climates.
