Recommended Posts

Looking to furnish the entire home and would love some recommendations for mid to high quality furniture stores.  We're flying in this week and need to begin the journey.  Thanks!

What style?

Tom ... probably leather and some nice wooden pieces; although since we're selling most everything we currently have, we're open ...

For leather, you can also try locally at Oscar's place next to Sunrise restaurant.  Bought from him in 2010 and set to order a sofa again this month.  It is well-made Palliser brand, a Canadian company but manufactured in MX.  It does take 6 to 8 weeks for items not in stock.

For leather upholstered furniture, I recommend a trip to Contempora in Ocotlán. We are very happy with the leather sofas we purchased there a few months ago. The Paliser sofas at Oscar & Jorge's were slightly higher quality than the ones we bought at Contempora ... but well over double the price.

Ocotlan is a good place to shop if you are looking for modern... Nothing in traditional, country french, etc... You can have local craftsmen make wood furniture... Just give them a picture... We have found the quality to be good and the price is about the same as retail in the states...

There is a place called Originals and Replicas, on the outskirts of Tonala, that has lots of mesquite dining sets. You can google them and find their website. Also in Tlapaqpaque, on the pedestrian street, there is a store with upholstered furniture with colorful fabrics from Chiapas and Guadamala. We have found other pieces on that same street. I would be happy to take you to those places when you are able.

The place with furniture covered with fabrics from Guatemala and Chiapas is called Corazon de la Tierra and it is on Indepencia right next to the Museum of Ceramics in Tlaquepaque. Right next to the calle Cruz Verde and Independencia. There ae lots of furniture on Juarez and Independencia.. in Tlaquepaque

You have gotten some good advice here. My advice is to take it slow. Start with a few basics to get started, sofa, bed, etc. live in the house a month or 2 and add slowly. Almost everyone here has "mistakes" from buying too much too quickly. Decorating here is a lot of fun...enjoy
