Windows 7 Ultimate and Windows Defender

Recommended Posts

On checking my computer noticed my Windows Defender was turned off, and for the life of me, Windows would not let me turn it back on. The circle just kept going round and round until it timed out.  Just wondering if this was a play by Windows to get me to download Windows 10.  Any thoughts or suggestions?  Thanks to all.

I just checked mine. I have Windows 7 ultimate and my Windows Defender is turned off. I can't turn it on. When I tried it says "blocked by group policy.....error code 0x800704ec". Maybe because I use Avast for antivirus.

Looks like a registry fix is one solution:

Microsoft does still support Windows 7 for security updates until January 14th, 2020.  Keep in mind that Windows Defender is an antivirus/antispyware, so it would not run if you had another antivirus program like Avast installed and enabled.  One or the other.
