Just heard a rainbird in San Antonio.....long and loud!!!!  Rainy Season is on it's way!

LOL... We heard one in Riberas last night for a long time. The only thing I can figure is that Global warming is messing up their circadian rhythm/clocks, because that rainbird is a month early at best.

They show up around here about the same time every year and that is often a month before any significant rain.  I believe their appearance is more about temperature than any mythological connection with actual precipitation.

Checking the references on the topic seems to confirm that temperature is the main determinant of when they emerge and start "singing."

I heard them last month in upper Chapala...maybe the rainy season will start earlier this year.   It got hotter sooner than any other year we've had since we've lived here, over 10 years now.
