Bandol
I had first-rate cataract surgery from Dr. Vargas. No idea about glasses.
kbleitch
Dr. Vargas successfully treated my small retinal tear with laser surgery almost four years ago. No issues since then. I have no complaints.

Yes they are and an Ophthalmologist is an Md with extra years training and ongoing of same [eye doctor] and a PhD is a doctor of philosophy who may or may not be an Optometrist or Optician neither of which can treat disease or perform surgery. Oh and you can get a phd in anything from basket weaving and law but there is no such thing with any medical related degrees or training except for research fellow only. RVGRINGO
Dr. Roig is an MD and performs retinal surgeries at Clinica Santa Lucia and Hospital Puerto de Hierro in Guadalajra. I have had six surgeries with him. Nice guy, perfect English, US, Mexican and European trained.

I don't know about here, but in Canada most up to date Optometrists can do it too.
Floradude
Dr. Roig is a Medical Doctor with a Residency/Certification in Ophthalmology. The Phd. after is name indicates he has an additional doctoral degree in another field. Now, I am not saying I know this to be the truth but just explaining what the texted title means. RVGRINGO
Yes, Dr. Roig tests for glaucoma and was the first to discover mine and prescribe treatment, incidental to my multiple collapsed retinas and, of course, cataract lens replacements. Dr. Roig is a retina specialist; a retinologist, as his website indicates. I always preferred having him do the surgery at Clinica Santa Lucia, as it is an eye surgery clinic with even better equipment and personnel than Hospital Puerto de Hierro; where he also has offices and operates; but, he also prefers the clinic. It is also a bit more economical than the hospital and the anesthesiologist, Dr. Camarena, is fantastic.
