CFE bills: is there a 4th tarifa?

Recommended Posts

Looking at my CFE bill I see 3 numbers on the "rainbow".  So, basico is 0- the first number (75 on my bill, a different number on other bills), intermedio is 76-140, exedente is 141-250. But is there a 4th tarifa beyond 250?  I don`t see it referenced on the CFE site, but I thought someone might know about this.

Fourth rate per KWH is the DAC rate for energy gobbling. Below is the rate in your climatic zone 01. Central Región.

($ / KWh) 4.050 4.156 4.315 4.660

When you are in the DAC rate the other 3 subsidized  tariffs are not used for any of your comsumption, just the DAC tariff rates posted above for your whole bill.

So, in this area, if you use 250 or more kilowatts per month, you would pay 250 x 4 pesos = 1,000 pesos.  If you used 249 kw, you would pay 426 pesos:

(basico)        75 watts x .79    =  59  plus

(intermedio) 65 watts x  .95   =   62 plus

(exedente) 109 watts x 2.8   =   305

equals   426 pesos

which is the difference between paying subsidized electricity and full cost, non-subsidized electricity (DAC).  Correct, Alan?

I think most people haven`t read or don`t know how to read their bills and don`t know the difference between paying subsidized and non-subsidized electricity.  So, they are very surprised when their CFE bills jump 100% or more.  If you doubled your usage, say from 135 watts per month to 270, your bill would go from 116 pesos to 1080 pesos.  All this can be known from one`s CFE bill.

You can use more than 250 KWHs per month and pay the same as the subsidized tariff rate I posted from your post below BUT once your subsidized 3000 KWHs is used up BEFORE a 12 month period is up then you enter the DAC rate until your 12 month average consumption equals 250 KWHs per month or less again. Sometimes it takes months to do, sometimes you can´t do it.

"If you used 249 kw

Within the DAC tariff rate in your climatic zone 249 KWHs per month could cost you as high as 249 KWHs X $4.66 pesos = $1160.00 pesos.

250 KWHs per month is OK but an average of 251 KWHs per month usage will keep you in the DAC rate. 3000 KWHs/12 = 250 KWHs per month or 500 KWHs per 2 month billing cycle.
