phxfunguy Posted March 18, 2017 Report Share Posted March 18, 2017 I was in the process of helping a friend get his permanente visa in May when he would finally qualify after living here for several years going back and forth on tourist visas. Unfortuantely he suffered a very debilitating stroke 2 weeks ago and is still in the hospital. It appears he will survive but will spend the rest of his life in a care facility, totally paralyzed and unable to communicate as the stroke was in the lower brain stem. Financially and for emotional support it makes more sense for this man to remain in Mexico. He has funds to pay for his own care. Transport back to the US would be difficult with his needs. His current tourist visa will expire May 26th but it is now impossbile to do the trip to Phoenix and sign the application even though all the paperwork was ready to do so and the plane ticket purchased for May 11. So has anyone dealt with this type of visa issue and how to proceed? I've heard of humanitarian visa being granted for incapacitated folks for a year. Is there then a way to convert it to permanente with income verification later on when a person cannot travel? Sonia Posted March 26, 2017 Report Share Posted March 26, 2017 As noted humanitarian visa is the solution. I process many as I represent a nursing home. They are more work as Spencer knows but INM has no fee. The FMM can even be expired but better not. Definitely, have Spencer help, as there is a very specific process. Here in SMA INM staff now visit the person before approving even with a doctor's letter. They return for finger prints. Each time I need to be there.
