Hubby needs to have test done and we do have SP coverage but have never used it. If yes, can you outline the way we would go about it please. Thanks in advance for your knowledge - much appreciated. CHILLIN Posted March 3, 2017 Report Share Posted March 3, 2017 I would think you would ask at the reception area, bring your SP paperwork. I think there is an bilingual person in the mornings there. Write the words out in Spanish, then they will give a specialist appointment and SEMA number, or they will tell you that SP does not cover it. Make sure to ask what they charge, I think it will be very little compared to Guadalajara private hospitals. I would consider this a public health treatment, but maybe others do not. For example, in Canada, you will only get a "free" colonoscopy if your fecal test, taken over 7 days, shows signs of microscopic blood cells. I went to my Urologist to have my prostate checked out. They are chatting, and the Doctor says "You are really sick!" I'm pretty sure they will have to go to a private clinic or Civil Hospital in Guadalajara. I haven't been in there in months but we were told a year ago that they don't do colonoscopies. ned small Posted March 4, 2017 Report Share Posted March 4, 2017 Colonoscopy is a dangerous procedure that should be done in a full service hospital in Guadalajara in case something goes wrong[perforation leading to peritonitis?]. bill_d Posted March 12, 2017 Report Share Posted March 12, 2017 There is something one should consider in re colonoscopy. I am prescribed cipro before mine. I was also given an injection antibiotic for my last one. I don't know if it from spending so much time in Mexico, my life long eating habits, or as I was born, but any urinalysis I have tests positive for e coli. My Urologist says it is no problem, it is just 'part of me.' The 'problem' is that the colonoscopy once resulted in the e coli entering my blood stream.
