Other people can tell you about Ajijic, but remember how close these pueblos are. The part of San Antonio Tlay where I live has few street lights. I set a telescope up in the backyard and see fine. Also, you can drive very short distance and have close to a dark sky.

The high desert weather we have also means little cloud cover, outside of the rainy season (which can be a total loss) and rare tropical storms.

More experienced people can give more info.

From where we are, very few streetlights so they sky is amazing. I often use the free app  Skyview Free  on my  cellphone to identify stars and constellations.
