(blood pressure) Am 61 so I believe private health insurance would be pretty pricey (and am informed that it has pretty steep annual increases). Is Seguro Popular the last remaining option? There are 2 large "community" hospitals which take all comers: one in Jocotepec on the east end and one in Chapala on the north end. One pays only for materials used. There are many excellent clinics. The one most people use in and around Ajijic is the Ajijic Clinic at Javier Mina and the carretera. This is 24/7 with a doctor always on duty, emergency care (but not at the heart attack level) , several beds for longer stay. $250 pesos to see the doctor for a long enough, in depth conversation about your situation. There are dozens of old style private practice doctors all along the ribera, one per practice and in groups. There is Cruz Roja for emergencies of all kinds (call and they will come when you have had a heart attack). Their remaining facility is in Chapala at the west end of Cristiana Park. So if living in ajijic what number does one call for ambulance to take you to chapala or joco if had heart attack for example? Do these two have facilities for this type of emergency? I think I have read on other topics that these 2 community hospitals do not treat heart attacks or other serious situations. I think I would call Cruz Roja for a heart attack. The whole subject of who to call for ambulances is a good one and one that needs some good public information posted. Other questions needing attention: if Cruz Roja has no one able to treat you (doctors all busy) would they ambulance you to a Guad facility? If you WERE taken to one of the community hospital and they couldn`t treat you, would they ambulance you to a Guad facility? Are there private ambulance companies lakeside that would take you to Guad? I`m sure a doctor here could answer these questions. Dr. Hernandez, could you answer? These costs will run you something like 800p for an initial visit, 600p for subsequent visits. Do you need other information then what I gave you? I maintained individual phone numbers and e-mails, which saved my bacon by allowing me, or my wife, to call when I had a heart attack; and I had several. I was coached on the phone to self-medicate and have my wife drive me to Guadalajara, where my cardiologist was waiting for me at the emergency room. In a similar situation, my abdominal surgery was performed in time to prevent further problems by being able to make immediate contact with my surgeon.
