hopeful Mex
Thinking about becoming a part-year resident at Lakeside, less than 6 months so a tourist visa will suffice. I use VA healthcare in the US exclusively which only covers your actual service-connected disability outside the US. This wouldn't be enough by itself. Is a travel health insurance policy including repatriation covering my stay the best option( as I wouldn't be eligible for IMSS on a tourist visa?) Can anyone recommend a good company- preferrably one that offers policies that pay health providers directly?
geeser
There is a group policy here at Lake side through a group called Boomers-In-Paradise and they have a group policy through Worldwide Expatriate Insurance for Healthcare. The WEA info can be seen here: http://www.pagroupco.com/wea/ Rates and policies here: https://www.weadirect.com/ You may get a better rate by joining the group and betting this WEA insurance:https://boomers-in-paradise.org/wea-icare/about-wea-icare/ You will find much better rates than you expect from the USA and it will cover you anywhere except the USA. The US is no longer number one in healthcare results and the US prices for medical services are the highest in the world.
hopeful Mex
Yes, I forget exactly where US healthcare ranks worldwide but do remember that there are quite a few countries ahead of it.
geeser
The US scores poorly on many fronts, ranked 31st out of 191 countries in the list. And yet it is first in per capita cost – a whopping 17% of GDP. France scores highest in healthcare quality and it is 4th in per capita cost. Singapore is a great compromise scoring 66th place in quality and drops to 38th in cost.
hopeful Mex
That's close to $1 out of every five spent by the gov't. on healthcare and somehow the US still manages to be one of the most unhealthy countries of the first world nations. Metuchenmama
Get a travel insurance health policy. You can get it for just the amount of time necessary and then renew it a year later when you return to Mexico. Contact Julie Ray as she is a travel agent and also sells travel insurance. She will work with you to get the right insurance to meet your needs. At the present time she is in the US but can be reached on her Magic Jack number which is 520 464 2407.. Her permanent address is here in Mexico. I recently got a health travel insurance policy through her for a trip to the United States. She gave me options and let me decide which I felt best for me. Newfhugger
It is my understanding that the Boomers insurance doesn't cover a lot of things - anything that might "wear out" like a joint, etc. So be careful before buying of what you are purchasing.
