Gasoline shortage!

Gasoline shortages have been caused by pipeline thefts. Now they are trying to fill the out of gasoline locations but there is a shortage of tankers. The company stated that they hope to restore supplies within 48 hours. Rushing to fill up will probably delay the normal  flow of traffic until the public relaxes.

Nice having 2 vehicles, use one if this happens then use the others until the gas comes but we have only seen a little shortage once in a while for a very short time in almost 10 years. Nothing to worry about. Not like in AZ years ago when it was a week and no gas.

The gasoline 'shortage' is a manipulated shortage that will magically disappear as of January 1, 2017, when the price of regular gasoline at the pump is expected to increase by as much as 3 pesos per liter.  The price of gasoline will increase as much as 22.5% during 2017.  The price increases are said to be due to the peso/dollar exchange rate.

Here are links to a few articles about it.

Why would they manipulate a shortage.. There are the only game in town.. They can charge want they want for their gas.. If they don't sell any they don't make money.. In my ten years here I've found its not unusal for them to run out of gas..  A couple weeks ago Pemex on the corner of Aldama had no Magna..

I saw a Pemex tanker truck coming down the Libremiento about 6 pm.  We don't have a gas shortage here.

I guess you haven't been to several of the stations around here; none had rojo, some had no verde. I guess the pump guys were laughing at me, eh?

Pemex station in Ajijic (corner of Aldama) was closed today at 1 pm.  Went to the one on the libramiento to fill up, and guy there said the Ajijic one was "out of gas".

I filled up at the libramiento yesterday.

As of today gas in SMA, gas around Leon. From Leon to outskirts of GDL no gas (HWY 45 and 80). From GDL to Manzanillo only saw 2 stations with no gas.

best

Yes I think your right, the pump guys were laughing at you.  Because up to 11am today (26th) the Pemex on the corner of Aldama had lots of both grades of gasoline, they closed early yesterday (25th) for Christmas.. They had not heard of any gas shortage in this area...

Not bloody likely. I was at three stations; none had red. Period. Granted the shortage was a short-lived circumstance, but that is not the point. AlanMexicali first reported here from as far away as San Luis Potosi; the Guad Reporter reported it, the Mexico News Daily reported it, members of this board reported it. I experienced it. Others reported it in Lagos de Moreno, San Juan de los Lagos, and Tepetitlan. And yet you find this difficult to believe because of your singular experience.

Remember, "shortage" does not mean "outage".

It's always helpful to read the news about a situation in Mexico.  Here's a link to an article about the desabasto (shortage) of gasoline in four states.  The article blames the consumer, not PEMEX.  http://www.jornada.unam.mx/ultimas/2016/12/26/pemex-niega-problema-de-abasto-de-gasolina-en-cinco-estados

Next article: the price of gasoline will go up as much as 20% in January.  http://www.jornada.unam.mx/ultimas/2016/12/27/precios-de-las-gasolinas-subiran-hasta-20-en-enero

To the poster who said "So they have gas but will not sell any for a week during the busy Christmas travel time so they can sell it for 3 pesos a liter more January 1st? The logic of this escapes me.", think about your 3 pesos a liter plus the 3 pesos a liter of everyone who fills up a tank after the first of January.  That's a huge amount of money.  If your tank holds 50 liters, that's 150 pesos extra just from you--not to mention the line of people in their cars and trucks in front of and behind you, all anxious for a fill-up.

If you would have taken the time to read my post you would have read that I was commenting on my experience in this area..not SLP or LdM because I have no personal knowledge of what's happening in those areas. But if you read it in the newspaper then it must be true, because they would never embellish a story just to fill up the pages over a slow time news time....WOULD THEY...?

You might also have read other poster never had any problems filling up.. It seems only you ..

Excuse me? Now you are just trying to wiggle out of it. Of course I read every word in your post; how otherwise would I have been able to answer you on each point? This thread started in San Luis Potosi, but you repeat that there can be no shortage because it didn't happen to you.

And insinuating that any article in any given newspaper is not true, is an amazingly facile rationalization. Hey! I've got nothing against you personally, and I do like to have a good discussion, but facts are facts.

And " other poster never had any problems filling up "? Two others on this very thread reported it locally, per your strict requirements. Now who's not reading. Come on.

The Pemex out east of Chapala on the road going to Mezcala is not pumping any gas this morning.  I was turned away when I tried to get gas.  Now I'm out so I guess I'll just park it until January 1 when the stations will miraculously have lots of gas to sell.
